Considerations

July saw a lot of exciting things happening at VCC. We started playing matches against other clubs again, the clubhouse opened for social gatherings, we hosted some high quality national practice matches, Tim de Leede held a hugely successful youth training week and we even had a face to face General Members Meeting (GMM). The atmosphere in the club feels very positive and everyone is enjoying the opportunity to play our beloved game and to connect with old and new friends alike.

We are however very aware of the challenging environment we still find ourselves in and ask all members to adhere to national Covid protocols when attending any activities or events at the club. Please always respect rules regarding physical distancing between people – never underestimate the risks to yourself and especially others around you.

As we move into August, the full schedule of matches against other clubs will continue at all levels. Some of you might be going on holiday and therefore won’t be able to play in some matches. Please make sure the applicable team managers are well aware of your availability or lack there-of.

The grass pitches on our main ground are an absolute pleasure to play on. Tom de Grooth and his team (Jaap Mulder, Lex Nijhuis) are receiving continued praise from players and coaches exposed to our wonderful playing facilities. We want to thank our ground maintenance team for all their hard work.

The quality of our facilities are producing new opportunities at the highest level. We have recently been approached by the KNCB to host some exciting international matches during August. We will communicate dates as soon as confirmed. Please come and support our national team and better even, make yourself available to help host world class events at our beautiful venue and help the club as a volunteer (see below).

On the note of members volunteering and helping – this is a very important matter that was specifically addressed during the GMM as well. We need the support of all members to contribute in making our club operate in excellence at all times. We are a family that needs to pull together during the good and challenging times to move forward in a constructive way, having fun of course as we journey together.

We look forward to the remainder of the season and trust that all members will enjoy what VCC has to offer for all involved.

Kobus Nel, Chairman VCC

Review GMM July 9

The postponed AGM took place at July 9 and saw some 40 members attend the meeting. As some of the presented plans rerquire a change in the Articles (and the required 2/3rd of votes was obviously not present), an extraordinary GMM has been called. This will have just this agenda point and will take place on July 28, at 8 pm in the clubhouse. Members have had a separaye email invitation to visit the password-protected website for all details.

Installation of new clubhouse committee

In line with its policy to dedicate more operational tasks to committees, the Board is delighted to announce that Sander van Wissen, Amiet Soekhoe, Stefan de Graaff and Ricardo Goncalves will form the new clubhouse commitee and look a.o. after key-holding policy, opening and closing of the clubhouse, cleaning and the relation with Sparta.

Who thinks marketing & sponsoring is good fun?

Have you always been fascinated by (digital) marketing? Do you enjoy positioning VCC in/on (social) media, on the web, this newsletter etc.
Or are you the go-getter who acquires additional revenue streams for VCC? Are you someone who can think what the club can bring to sponsors (exposure, hospitality, clinics etc.) and convince companies of that? Then please express your interest to become part of the marketing&sponsoring committee via pr@voorburgcc.nl.

Can you help at some (international) events?

The details still need to be confirmed, but it seems that we will have some (inter)national matches of importance in August and September. We need people to help organise it, so please report to secretaris@voorburgcc.nl if you can help with bar duties, covering, setting-up, taking-down etc. As soon as possible and allowed we will publish the details on the website, but it looks like we may need hands on August 5, 17, 18, 27, 28 and Sep 5 or 12.

Becoming a scoring or umpiring professional?

Apparently the links in the previous newsletter had expired. Here they are again for umpiring and scoring. Be aware that it requires a registration process that may take a couple of days (before you get your login details).

A very special ball sponsor for VCC 1 and VCC 2

All weekends in which VCC 1 and VCC 2 are playing have now at least one ball sponsor. We're very grateful for that. For the T20 matches of VCC 1 (July 31 - Quick away, August 7 - HCC at home and August 14 - HBS away) we still have opportunities.

A very special gesture came from the late Satar Alladin. His wish posthumously was to sponsor this season the match balls for VCC 1 and 2. We are grateful he'll sponsor the balls on August 2, when VCC 1 plays away versus Sparta and VCC 2 will play home versus Punjab.

Do you want to arrange a clubnight?

On Friday nights we have our club night with the possibility to join in with the family for dinner after practice at around 6pm. Would you like to cater for dinner one night? Or cook yourself? Please contact our youth chairman!

New lunch/lounge tables and plastic cups in use

It cannot have been unnoticed by anyone visiting the ground: we have nine new picnic tables to lunch and lounge. It creates a very nice atmosphere during games and
Moreover, from a sustainability point of view, the Board has decided to get rid of the plastic cups that are used during drink breaks. Instead, we have now 150 coloured hard plastic cups that can be used and must be machine washed after use!

A double Century?

As it occurs both the number of seniors (men) and the number of juniors approach the magic 100 mark. We're only a few members away from registering the 100th men and the 100th junior, thanks to a steady inflow in both departments. The Board has decided to award both Centurions a one year free membership, so bring in your friends!

The "The Hague T20 Championships"

May 5 came close, the day at which the The Hague T20 championships were to be organised. Would the weather know? Apparently not because unlike all six preceding years it was beautiful weather that day and the ground looked moutwatering good. What a pity, but who knows, there is a bit of hope for 2020. Probably an opportunity for a sponsor to consider namegiving for the years to come of this fantastic event? Express your interest via sponsoring@voorburgcc.nl!
The Board is currently looking to say goodbye to the 2020 season with this one-day cup, rather than opening it.

Clinics
Do you know a company that wants a staff or company outing, brainstorming, breakout or team building session? But then "different", stylish, active and really fun? Consider a cricket clinic at the beautiful accommodation of Voorburg CC. For more information, check this or contact the club.
Who wants to join VCC?
VCC is still growing and we want to continue to grow in particular in our junior section. We now have approximately 85 juniors, the goal we have set ourselves for 2020 is to get to at least 100 junior members.
