Legos, lightsaber wars, talking chickens, and magic suitcases… these are not the usual tools for public safety messaging. However, for a group of students across North Central Washington, they were the perfect tools for helping educate communities on how they could protect themselves against coronavirus during Washington State’s Stay Home, Stay Healthy order as a part of the COVID-eo contest hosted by North Central Accountable Community of Health.

Launched in April 2020, the COVID-eo contest was a special opportunity for local youth to get involved in efforts to flatten the curve and help protect their communities. “At that point, we were still learning how COVID-19 and the Stay Home, Stay Healthy order was going to affect everyone, and we realized that there was an important opportunity to engage local students in raising awareness,” says NCACH Executive Assistant, Teresa Davis. Teresa, along with NCACH staffer Mariah Brown, helped conceptualize and launch the COVID-eo contest in partnership with Digital Media Northwest.

The COVID-eo contest asked K-12 students from across Chelan, Douglas, Grant, and Okanogan Counties to submit original video content emphasizing at least one public health recommendation or COVID-19 safety tip from the Centers for Disease Control to help raise awareness and educate others.

Results ranged from silly to serious, including tips to “dance the COVID away”, how to properly wash your hands, conversations with a talking chicken, and how to stay virtually connected while practicing social distancing.... Click the link below to read more and see the list of winners!

Help us identify local funding priorities

NCACH and the Regional Leadership Council for the Coalitions for Health Improvement (CHI) are requesting your feedback for the 2020 CHI Community Initiatives funding opportunity.

Please take this
short survey to share your feedback with us!

In 2019, the North Central Accountable Community of Health (NCACH) awarded $450,000 to local and regional health initiatives across Chelan, Douglas, Grant, and Okanogan Counties. The funding was allocated using a community investment process developed by the Coalitions for Health Improvement, called the CHI Community Initiatives Funding. The process opened to applicants in July 2019 and eight finalists were awarded.

NCACH’s Governing Board has allocated an additional $450,000 for a second cycle of the community investment process in 2020. Following the first completed cycle of the community investment process, an evaluation was conducted, which indicated some process improvements could be made.

This survey is intended to help us understand what is important to the three Coalitions for Health Improvement (CHI) as we make improvements to the CHI Community Initiatives investment process in 2020.

Washington State Prevention Summit

Register here
Hosted virtually
November 3 - 4, 2020

The prevention community in Washington State has been convening annually since the 1980s. The initial conferences were held in Ellensburg, Washington, on the campus of Central Washington University. The conferences were known as “family focus” meetings, and soon after became known as the annual “Building a Vision” conference. After a few name changes in the late 1990s, the annual conference was renamed in 1999 as the Washington State Prevention Summit.

The goal of the Prevention Summit is to provide an enriching and culturally competent training and networking opportunity for youth, volunteers and professionals working toward the prevention of substance abuse, violence and other destructive behaviors as well as integrating such prevention efforts with primary health care.
