The postponed 2020 ADMG AGM was held by Zoom on Thursday 16 July. A recording of the AGM proceedings is now available to view online, and the address by ADMG Chairman Richard Cooke is available on the website.
ADMG Summer Newsletter – Scope
The summer edition of Scope is now available either to read or download from the ADMG website. This edition is available online only as our usual platform for handing out copies, the GWCT Scottish Game Fair, has been postponed until weekend 2 – 4 October where we hope to be in attendance.
Venison
Full reports about what is happening in the venison sector are available in Scope. Also, an update on the market and the push for a post COVID-19 venison recovery plan was reported on in detail at the ADMG AGM. Whilst stalkers and deer managers are advised that, as far as possible, they should aim to deliver their culls as planned this year, the venison supply chain, with the total closure of the food service, restaurant, catering and events markets over the last four months, is under exceptional pressure. There is also uncertainty over exports.
All are encouraged therefore to speak to their processor about how best to “flatten the peaks” as social distancing at processors will have a major impact on managing throughput. Spreading the cull is really important and collection schedules will need to work for both producer and processor over the coming months, October posing the greatest challenge. This is essential so that the system, fragile as it is, does not buckle under a flood of carcasses in a short time frame.
