The Treasury has announced Green Home Improvement Scheme
In his summer budget statement last week, Rishi Sunak, the Chancellor of the Exchequer, announced a number of initiatives to protect jobs in the energy efficiency sector. One of these initiatives is the Green Home Improvement Scheme.
The scheme will provide homeowners with vouchers to cover two thirds of the cost of installing energy efficiency measures in their home, up to a maximum of £5,000 (although for those who are most vulnerable in society the amount can be raised to £10,000)
There is funding also for Local Authorities to insulate and improve public buildings, especially schools and hospitals.
So far it looks like the only measures covered are
- solid wall Insulation
- under-floor Insulation
- cavity wall Insulation
- roof insulation
- air source heat pump
- ground source heat pump
- solar thermal
- double or triple glazing ( including secondary glazing), when replacing single glazing
- upgrading to energy efficient doors
- hot water tank
- appliance tank thermostats
- heating controls
We have asked BEIS for a full list of measures, and await their response

Another aspect of the announcement made by the Chancellor is that extra funding is to be made available for the training of new apprentices in the energy efficiency sector. This could ease the burden on companies that need new installers, but who have found the cost of training prohibitive in the past.
Are you Trustmark Qualified?
In order to participate in the Green Homes Grant Scheme installers must be MCS or Trustmark certified.
The government announced the requirement in a press release on Tuesday morning and further details will be published in due course.
