King County Achieves 1 Million Trees Initiative
In 2015, King County set a goal to plant One Million trees with partners and volunteers by the end of 2020. That goal was reached in February! Almost one year ahead of schedule.
KCD is proud to have been one of hundreds of partners in this effort. We worked with 1,800 King County residents to plant 33,000 trees on 450 acres of land!
Every yard is part of the tree canopy network and it's essential to engage all urban properties and backyards to recover tree canopy.
KCD works with cities and individual residents to help increase our tree canopy through our urban, rural, and wildfire resiliency forestry programs.

KCD and Racism
King Conservation District has had a long history of leading efforts in conservation across King County. KCD prides itself on its many accomplishments and will continue to work hard for greater accomplishments.
Recently, two challenges have landed at our doorstep: COVID-19 and Black Lives Matter protests concerning the death of George Floyd. KCD was in the middle of planning and organizing to address the pandemic, but unlike the prescriptive steps to address the pandemic, nothing was provided to address the issues around the death of George Floyd and the deep seeded issues of systemic racism. The only question that can be addressed is: What will KCD do to address systemic racism?
It is our belief that this organization cannot survive without bringing about meaningful change and to increase the voices of diversity in our district.
