A search for high school science talent

The Regeneron Science Talent Search 2021 application is now open! High school seniors across the United States are invited to share their original research projects and apply to the nation’s oldest STEM competition, where they could win up to $250,000.

The top 300 scholars receive $2,000 each, and their schools also receive $2,000. Forty finalists will be invited to compete in the finals week competition. Every finalist receives at least $25,000. Check out last year’s highlights video.

The application will close on November 12, 2020, at 7pm CST. There are no limits to the number of students who can enter from any school, region or state, and students may submit research from any year of high school. The program is free. DIVERSITY IN STEM

Closing the Gender Gap

From the power of a single moment in shaping a career decision to the challenges and necessity of tackling systemic change, the KC STEM Alliance's Closing the Gender Gap webinar series looked at gender diversity work in place now and asked what needs to come next.

Moderated by Dr. Margery Sendze, the five-week webinar series looked at key influences and success stories at each stage of STEM education—from kindergarten through high school—with panelists who represent mentors, parents, teachers, students and women with STEM careers. Much more is to come on this work, but if you missed the series and would like access to the videos, graphic recordings and resource lists, please sign up below.

Bridging the Gender Divide: Toys that Build STEM Skills

This new exhibit at The National Museum of Toys/Miniatures takes a historical look at how toys helped children develop skills that contributed to success in careers in science, technology, engineering and math. The exhibit examines the way STEM toys were marketed primarily to boys from the late 19th century through the mid-20th century and the impact that had on career choices. Just as toys have historically helped build skills and inspire young men to pursue STEM careers, today’s toys can help young women and men develop the skills necessary to succeed.
