Proverbs 14:10

The heart knows its own bitterness,
and no stranger shares its joy.
Proverbs 14:10

1. Christian depression is real
It's important that you understand that doing the right thing will not keep you from experiencing bad things.

Really bad things happen to God's children.

And that includes feeling depressed even when nothing bad has happened.

It doesn't mean you've strayed.

It doesn't mean you're lost.

It means you're not home in heaven yet.

2. Christian depression allows you to let others in
When your relationship with God is touched by anxiety and depression and you still hold on to him, your faith is proven true.

It means you're willing to serve God even when he isn't serving you.

When your spouse cannot help you get "better" but is willing to share the burden of your bitterness, it proves they are not a "stranger."

When you share your feelings with your spouse (whether bitterness or joy) you create the kind of intimacy only meant for best friends.

3. Christian depression allows us to taste grace
Jesus Christ made us his own by suffering for things he did not deserve.

He endured the full darkness of God's wrath so that we will never be put into true outer darkness.

These truths are not intended to make us feel "better," but they can make us feel close.

Both bitterness and joy are hidden deep within the human heart safe from strangers, and there is wisdom in sharing both in marriage.

Be kind and keep talking,
Brooke and Brian
