Defund Institutionalism, Fund Community
When institutionalism is present in a church, it shrivels the presence and power of the Holy Spirit. Institutional religion values the organization more than God's transformation but institutionalism is not limited to Christianity - it happens whenever a structure is protected and people are viewed merely as consumers, criminals or data points. There are examples of institutionalism in corporations, non-profits, law enforcement, government, academia, sports and tech.
In the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, there are a number of people who have been supporting small businesses, acknowledging their critical role in society. Small churches are like small businesses, close to the heartbeat of a community and able to respond to the needs people with agility, passion and a personal touch.
Many, many thanks to all who have funded the beloved community of MCCLV during a challenging time. Your gracious donations are providing groceries for families in need, spiritual hope for people experiencing isolation and an opportunity to build the kin-dom of God where all people are valued.
Jesus said, "Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over, will be put into your lap; for the measure you give will be the measure you get back." (Luke 6:38)
