Save Asylum
It's rare that we will ever use our Glocal Newsletter to ask you all to do something like this but as we have watched the immigration pathways into the U.S. be dismantled, we felt like it was important to ask for your help with saving asylum. Some of you may have seen this information already and I hope that you wrote a public comment asking that asylum cases can continue to be heard. For those who have not had this information, please read on and consider clicking the Save Asylum link to add your voice. These public comments have to be in by tomorrow, July 15. Thank you!
Asylum is a legal process for those with a credible fear of persecution in their home country. It's a pathway that provides protection for people in danger based on specific criteria of religion, race, nationality, political affiliation, or other social group.
The current administration has proposed a rule that would severely limit who would qualify for asylum going forward. It would make protection inaccessible for most people. In most practical ways, it would close our asylum program.
But there's opportunity to stop this rule from going into effect! We can submit "public comments" until Wednesday, July 15. So don't miss it! This is a chance to speak up and share how this rule would hurt vulnerable people. The above link includes a template and makes it incredibly simple to submit your response. Do take a few minutes to personalize your comments because duplicate comments may be disregarded.
