Florida Education Commissioner Richard Corcoran issued a recent Emergency Order that gives schools the freedom to create a plan that best fits their needs to reopen as safely and as quickly as possible. The University of Florida has compiled a thoughtful reopening plan to ensure a safe learning environment while maintaining the health of its hard-working community members.

UF’s plan will continue to evolve to keep Gator Nation healthy and ready to learn. Learn more about what to expect for UF’s fall semester below:
UF Campus Reopening Plan Fall 2020
Fall Schedule
  • Classes will begin on August 31, final exams will be completed by Dec. 18, and instructors are encouraged to allow course and exam completion remotely after Thanksgiving break.
  • Fall academic programming will be designed to accommodate remote arrangements for as many students and faculty as possible, especially for those with serious underlying health conditions.
  • Most student facilities are expected to be open, including the Southwest Recreation Center, the Libraries, the Reitz Union, and Newell Hall.
Policies and Procedures
  • UF Health Screening will be distributed throughout campuses to reinforce health and promote a safe environment.
  • The Office of ADA Compliance’s role is to accommodate individuals with high-risk complications.
  • The entire campus community is expected to continue the standard practices of wearing face coverings – required in all UF facilities.
  • All units will apply physical distancing and provide sanitizing stations throughout UF facilities.
  • Additional personal protective equipment will be provided to faculty and staff who will be in regular, extended contact in enclosed spaces.
  • Cleaning protocols approved by the CDC will be established in all UF facilities.
  • The Student Health Care Center will continue to serve the campus as the first point of contact for students with health-related issues.
  • Should the need arise, the university has reserved rooms on campus and rooms off-campus for student quarantine use.
Sports and Campus Activities
  • Decisions about the intercollegiate competition (i.e. campus sports) will come later and be made in conjunction with NCAA and SEC guidelines.
  • Student groups, including sororities and fraternities, that wish to reopen in fall must submit plans to maintain health and safety.
  • Campus traditions as well as extracurricular and co-curricular activities will continue to the greatest extent possible, although many will occur in a modified fashion.
  • Fall campus events and gatherings will be phased and gradual for safety measures.
  • UF campus will be in extensive coordination with off-campus transit systems as well as civic and educational members in the community.
Housing
  • No more than two students will reside in a single room.
  • A modified guest and visitation policy will be in effect to ensure the safety of members in residence halls.
  • Residence halls and dining facilities will be open with modifications that promote necessary physical distancing and other safety measures in alignment with UF Health recommendations.
  • UF also will be expanding enhanced cleaning and safety protocols in residence halls, dining facilities, and classrooms with the arrival of the fall semester.
Testing
  • A ten-station drive-thru testing site is operating on campus, under the direction of UF Health medical professionals.
  • All faculty and staff will be screened prior to their return to campus.
  • All students will complete a screening questionnaire for COVID-19 risk factors as they return to campus. Some students may be subject to mandatory testing.

Everything is subject to change to ensure the health and safety of UF’s community. For more information, please review UF Campus Reopening Plan: https://coronavirus.ufl.edu/media/coronavirusufledu/Reopening-Plan.pdf
