➢ The Duke SNF COVID-19 Advisory Team includes experts in infectious disease, geropsychiatry, palliative care, and case management to answer questions and find solutions for a variety of situations. Let’s meet one of our experts:
Dr. Jennifer Gentry is a Nurse Practitioner with the Duke University Palliative Care Consult Service, faculty member at the Duke University School of Nursing, a member of the Duke Hospital Ethics committee and a past president of the Hospice and Palliative Nurse’s Association. Fueled with a passion for supporting patients, their caregivers, and other healthcare providers, Dr. Gentry has worked to promote the benefits of palliative care and advance care planning.

From a view at the bedside as both a care giver and health care provider, she has seen both the benefits of palliative care and the challenges when a patient’s wishes for medical care are unknown. Jennifer is an adult and geriatric nurse practitioner, and one of the primary focuses of her practice is caring for older adults. Prior to her current role, she provided medical care for frail, older adults in both the community and in skilled nursing facility settings.

DUKE HEALTH UPDATES
Effective June 24th, 2020, Duke Health modified visitation guidelines based on recommendations from the CDC and our infectious disease experts.

VISITATION GUIDELINES FOR OUTPATIENT CLINICS

One visitor is allowed to accompany each patient to an appointment, unless an additional aide or assistant is required.
  • Visitors will be screened alongside patients prior to entering the clinic.
  • All visitors will wear masks in addition to our team members and patients who can tolerate them. Visitors may bring their own mask, or one will be provided.
  • All visitors will be required to pass our health screenings at one of our designated entry points. These screenings require all visitors to sanitize their hands, have their temperatures checked, put on masks, and answer questions about symptoms of illness and exposure risks prior to entering the hospital. Based on the results of this screening, visitors will be welcomed into the facility or asked to return to their cars with instructions to follow up with their healthcare providers.
