A favorite scripture

Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.  John 14:27

It is that time of year again. School starting is just around the corner and this year it might look different but the needs are still the same if not greater. We know that as a church community, our support of USD 253 students through the provision of school supplies has been a mission with lasting impact for our Emporia community. Teachers, parents and students alike have showered us with thank-yous, drawings and even videos telling us as a church how much this initiative positively impacts them year after year. This year, as families struggle financially and mentally in the shadow of our COVID-19 reality, this need is greater than ever.

Students returning to the classroom will physically need their own supplies in order to keep themselves safe and healthy while learning. For parents who are having difficulty with the many obstacles this time has provided, this initiative gives them one less thing to worry about while taking steps to keep their families safe upon the return to school.

While so many things in this world remain uncertain, let’s remind our community that just like God’s love, our support is consistent and our commitment to the students of USD253 is something that can be relied on.

In The Color of Compromise, Jemar Tisby takes readers back to the roots of sustained racism and injustice in the American church. Filled with powerful stories and examples of American Christianity's racial past, Tisby's historical narrative highlights the obvious ways people of faith have actively worked against racial justice, as well as the complicit silence of racial moderates. Identifying the cultural and institutional tables that must be flipped to bring about progress, Tisby provides an in-depth diagnosis for a racially divided American church and suggests ways to foster a more equitable and inclusive environment among God's people.

Interesting Note...
I met a lady recently and in our conversation, I mentioned that I worked at our church. She was very excited to hear that and went on to tell me how much she loves our Garage Sales. I shared with her that we are not able to do one this fall. She then told me that at one of our previous sales she had purchased a great deal of fabric, not knowing for sure at the time, how she would use it. When the Coronavirus began earlier this spring she got out that fabric and made several hundred face masks and donated them to the Chamber of Commerce. I found that very remarkable that she had purchased something from us, giving us the ability to donate her money to other causes. Then she was able to use her purchase to make an important donation to our community and it all started with someone else donating that fabric to us! We are a small world working together in love for our community!

The church is moving forward and making preparations to reopen the 10:35 service. We don't have a set date yet. We have stocked a supply of masks and hand sanitizer for when we open. We will begin announcing the procedure and the number of attendees in the near future. We want you to remember that we are still having Drive-In Worship at 8:00 am on Sunday mornings. We are also Live-streaming the 10:35 service and will continue to do so as we have for many years. If you are not comfortable attending in person or you are in a high-risk category, we strongly recommend that you watch the on-line service. Your health and safety are our utmost concern. John Wesley, the founder of our Methodist Movement, had three simple rules that he lived by. Do no harm, Do good, and Stay in love with God. We will do no harm. We remind you that our church has never 'shut down', instead we have opened countless churches in our own homes!
Sunday, July 19, 10:35 a.m.
Livestream at fumchurch.org
or listen on KVOE 1400.

We are beginning a new worship series this Sunday,
so don't miss out!!!

Parking Lot Worship

This Sunday, July 19, we will continue our 8 am parking lot worship service on the west side of the church.

You will want to make sure your FM radio is working in your vehicle and will be instructed Sunday morning as to what channel to set it at to hear the worship service.

We ask that you remain in your vehicle during the service.

Restrooms will not be available.

It is our hope that this is an opportunity and means for us to more visibly be and feel like we are the church together. Hope to see you!

The 10:35 worship service will continue to be Live-Streamed on KVOE.
