Hello Chapter Leaders!
Greetings to everyone across the world, and best wishes to those who are still in quarantine and going nuts from social distancing. I hope you all are finding new ways to spend your time, to center yourselves, and to focus on what really matters.
I’m writing to let you know what the Chapters Committee has planned for Virtual SIGGRAPH 2020! We hope that Chapters can continue to be a source of fun, networking, and professional development even despite the current limitations on our physical presence. In case you missed it, the SIGGRAPH 2020 committee has published the format of the virtual conference and registration categories here and ACM SIGGRAPH President Jessica Hodgins has announced the results of the conference survey here.
First up, on Saturday, August 1st we plan to hold the first ever virtual Chapters Workshop. We plan to run it in two 3-hour sessions on the Chapters Zoom account with a one hour break in the middle, running from 12pm noon to 7pm Eastern Daylight Time (GMT-4). The agenda we are working on is focused on teambuilding, connection-building, staying relaxed, and enjoying each other’s company. We will send more information soon, asking you to prepare some materials before the meeting and fill out a survey, but for now please have your chapter leadership team mark their calendars!
Secondly, we are finalising plans to organise a virtual Chapters Party! We would like to invite all chapter leaders and their local communities to host a virtual event during the Conference. Details to follow very soon! This first thing you can do is make sure you are on the official Chapters Slack!
Lastly, we are planning to run a Chapters Session during the conference. This will probably be categorized as a “Birds of a Feather”, but will take the place of our usual Chapters Fast Forward, Chapters Startup Meeting, and Chapters Business Meeting, and to some extent the Student Volunteer Luncheon. This has also not been scheduled yet, but details are forthcoming.

You can also follow and participate in the planning of these three virtual events by joining our ACM SIGGRAPH Chapters Slack!
Also, we realize that many chapters are in different time zones that make the timing of these events very difficult to participate in. I want to reassure you that we still plan to hold our usual chapters events for SIGGRAPH Asia, which has also been moved to a virtual format, and those will be held in the relevant time zone.
