Data Resources for Learning
I hope this note finds you enjoying the last few weeks of summer. If you are like me, you have already begun gearing up for fall, and the school year ahead. Whether you are a teacher or a parent, a curriculum developer or a student, the ever-changing landscape of education in the face of COVID-19 is making this a challenging time for everyone.
I was recently in a meeting with the curriculum development team for our Streams of Data project and it occurred to me that because our work makes use of authentic scientific data, we tend to build learning experiences that involve the use of computers and the internet. And as fortune would have it, these are exactly the kind of learning experiences that lend themselves well to remote learning – which will, for better or worse, be the norm for many classrooms in the coming year.
We often get requests from educators about datasets or curriculum materials they can use in the classroom. To respond to this need, we created a list of ODI and non-ODI resources a few years back, and have been adding to this list ever since. These resources are arranged by grade level, to help educators in locating resources that might be relevant to their classrooms' needs. There are many other resources out there; these are just a few examples of resources that look promising or useful in building data literacy skills, to help get educators started.

I wanted to share this with you in the hopes that it might help you locate exciting and engaging tools you can use with your students – wherever they are, and whatever their learning situation might be. I hope you find them useful, and if you know of other resources that you think would be good additions to this page, please send them our way.
I wish you all health and happiness now and in the school year ahead.
