Tourism WA "Our Story" Workshop
Tourism WA in partnership with Destination Perth, RDA Wheatbelt and York Arts and Events invite you to “Our Story – Deep Dive Workshop” Avon and Western Wheatbelt.

The Spirit of Adventure is WAs new shared tourism story that defines our unique points of difference and sense of identity. The session will provide insight into The Spirit of Adventure followed by an interactive workshop where you are invited to participate. We want to know what you love about your region so we can convey this message to visitors.

Further workshops in other sub-regions may be scheduled where Tourism WA are invited to do so.

Government and Community News

Apprenticeship and Traineeship Re-engagement Incentive for employers to take on a displaced apprentice or trainee during COVID-19 recovery. Employers can access a one-off payment of $6000 for hiring an apprentice and $3000 for hiring a trainee whose training contract was terminated on, or after, March 1, 2020. The payment is available until June 30, 2021. 

Startup Business International and AgriFutures Australia are bringing Entrepreneurial Education to rural and regional communities across Australia through a program that teaches high school students in rural and regional Australia how to solve problems facing agriculture, using innovation and an entrepreneurial mindset. Nominate a school. Applications close 3 Aug. 

Bob Hawke Landcare Award. Prize package to the value of $50,000 for further development of recipients knowledge and skills in sustainable land management.  Recognising an individual involved in championing Landcare and who inspires others to take action on their own property or through a Landcare group. Closing 31 Aug.

2020 Farm Harvest Skills and Heavy Machinery Program through ‘2 Workin Oz’ will be offering 36 partial scholarships for a four-day program. Developed to encourage WA people to secure agricultural work in rural locations and to help meet current shortfalls in employment for the upcoming harvest season.  

Wage subsidies provide Australian businesses with financial incentives of up to $10,000 (GST inc) to hire and retain eligible job seekers in ongoing and sustainable positions. Ongoing.

Grants and Funding Opportunities

Regional Arts Resilience. Up to $15,000 to assist regional artists, arts organisations and communities to sustain creative practices and participate in the regional economy during the immediate period of disruption caused by COVID-19. Closing 6 Aug.  

In a Good Place. Up to $20,000 to support community-driven initiatives that reduce social isolation, increase social participation and connectedness, and encourage people in rural, regional and remote communities who are at risk of, or are experiencing, mental health issues to seek help. Closing 11 Aug.  

Plastics and Tyres Processing Fund. Call for EOIs for funding to support the development of new plastics and tyres processing capacity to manage all of the waste plastics and tyres currently collected in WA that will be restricted by the COAG waste export bans. $15 million in funding. Access will also be provided to industrial zoned land valued at $5 million for processing infrastructure. Closing 17 Aug.
 
Energy Efficient Communities Program. To support Small Business to save energy through a range of activities. Est $5,000 - $20,000. Closes 26 Aug but may close earlier if funding runs out.  
 
Strengthening Rural Communities. Up to $10,000 in the Small & Vital program which aims to give the thousands of small rural, regional and remote communities across Australia an opportunity to apply for funding that can support broad community needs. Closing 25 Aug.  

Business Research and Innovation Initiative Priority Sectors. Up to $100,000. With 3 stages. Stage 1, challenge selection has 5 options. • Revolutionising agricultural spray applications • Turning farm crops into a renewable hydrogen source • Turning office trash into energy treasure • Counting fish using advanced technologies • Automating the detection of whales at sea. Closing 10 Sept.
