A lot is going in this week as we go deeper into the new normal phase; after months learning from home, many junior and senior high school students in Indonesia’s ‘green zones’ are returning to schools with strict health protocols. This is obviously not the case for the red zones, including Jakarta, where class activities are still to be conducted remotely due to health and safety concerns.

Jakarta reported 281 new cases on the start of this week, making a total of 14,797 cases and 697 deaths so far, This figure was among the city’s record daily highs since the outbreak hit, as reported by the Jakarta Post.

As our travels have been strictly restricted since the outbreak hit, we might wonder how does it feel like to go through the many hoops, paperworks, restrictions and safety precautions that a an air travel entails during a pandemic; read about Sarah Floriani’s transcontinental journey from Jakarta to France to find out what it’s like, and some tips to ensure a smooth sailing.

And speaking of travel, aren’t we all ready for some good news; for its sights, culture, cuisine, friendliness, and overall charm, Ubud was ranked 9th out of the 25 ‘Top Cities in the World’ by Travel+Leisure (T+L) with a score of 88.16 in the media’s World’s Best Awards survey. The survey also lists two Bali hotels in its top ten out of 100 best hotels in the world. May this accolade be a reminder of what we all can look forward to, and what to persevere for. We have also compiled our list of must-visit UNESCO Global Geoparks in Indonesia for you to visit when you are ready to explore and travel. Have a good rest of the week!
