Summer is my favorite time of the year in Champaign-Urbana, even if some of the fun events that usually happen have had to take a different form, and we can see the school year and its attached concerns and anxieties coming towards us. I appreciated the attitude in this article from the Episcopal family blog BuildFaith on taking a "30 Minute Summer Sabbath."  Not all the ideas are limited to kids! Join me in putting one into practice this week, or creating your own?

This Week's Highlights
SUMMER BOOK READ
This summer, Emmanuel is reading through James Cone's seminal book, The Cross and the Lynching Tree. Because of the weight of the topic and our continued distance from one another, the pastoral staff at Emmanuel has decided to blog through the book chapter-by-chapter. We'll be posting reflections every Tuesday morning for 6 weeks. You can find our thoughts and questions at the Emmanuel website.

FORWARD DAY BY DAY
The August-October issue of Forward Day by Day has arrived. If you're coming to in-person worship, copies are in the racks. If not, you can pick one up at the office weekday mornings, or we are happy to deliver if you are not going out!

CONTACTLESS HOME COMMUNION
While clergy and volunteers are not able to visit safely inside others' homes at this time, we are making contactless home communion calls to those who are shut-in or in higher risk groups. Deacon Chris is organizing this ministry, so if you are confined to your home and would like to be added to the contactless home communion list, please be in touch with her.

PRAYER LIST
Emmanuel Morning and Evening prayer leaders continue praying daily, as does St. Luke's Guild, for the names submitted for our parish prayer list. You can subscribe and pray with us here

Taking Faith Home

Parish Calendar

IN A PASTORAL EMERGENCY - If you or a family member are in the hospital or have another personal emergency, please let the clergy know; they are ready to visit or assist. If the office is closed, please leave the information (including which hospital) in one of their personal office voicemail boxes or on a home phone. Emmanuel can also arrange to have meals provided; just ask!

SCHEDULE INFORMATION -
Emmanuel's ministry staff seek health for both themselves and the parish culture by taking regular time off. MOTHER BETH is off on Fridays. DEACON CHRIS is currently working from home. MARISA CROFTS is off on Mondays. Voice mail may be left in their boxes at any time.

OFFICE HOURS-
The church office is open limited hours weekday mornings for work that cannot be done remotely. At other times our staff will continue fulfilling all their ministry responsibilities from home, including actively responding to email and phone messages.
