As many have seen, the number of positive COVID-19 cases in Mississippi is rising. Harrison County is no exception, experiencing spikes in the number of new cases and deaths. This past week, Governor Reeves issued tighter restrictions for thirteen counties across the State, including Harrison County. These guidelines require that customers wear masks in stores, observe sanitation and social distancing practices, and provide continued capacity limits on indoor and outdoor gatherings.
It is our duty to care about the quality of life of Gulfport’s residents, including the impact of a healthcare crisis. Mandating masks is not about punishment. It’s about encouraging smart, safe behavior, providing a safe community for our citizens – today, and tomorrow.
In any case, it is always a good idea to "mask up" anytime you go out, especially if you will be in contact with others. We must all do our part to help slow the spread of COVID-19 and avoid a return to more stringent controls, limitations, and lockdowns.

DARLENE IS KEEPING THE BALL ROLLING
Darlene Pinckney has been with the City of Gulfport for over 14 years and handles the administrative side of the Gulfport Sportsplex, which includes the scheduling of practices and special events, and ensuring that the needs of the complex, its employees and patrons are met.
Given her love for children, Darlene is totally committed to providing our guests the best experience possible. Countless young athletes have participated in baseball, softball, football and other recreational teams on the Sportsplex fields.
Additionally, thousands of people have experienced the commitment she has to providing a quality experience during events like Buddy Walk, Buddy Ball, the Easter Egg Hunt, Boo Bash and other happenings at the facility.
Over the years, she has become known as the "face" of the Sportsplex.
Darlene cherishes her role as a wife and a mother of two exceptional children and takes great pleasure in activities that include her family. She also enjoys basketball, dancing, and traveling.
