AYPH is continuing to prioritise youth engagement despite the limitations imposed by the COVID-19 pandemic. Young people's voice is central to everything AYPH does and this edition of the newsletter focuses on actions we are taking to amplify young people's voice within AYPH and the health sector.
AYPH is recruiting a youth advisory panel
We are delighted to announce that we are selecting 10 to 12 young people aged 10 - 25 from a range of different backgrounds to become part of our new youth advisory panel.  Panel members will advise AYPH on its direction, be involved in a range of projects and have the opportunity to highlight their views and perspectives on young people’s health and wellbeing.

What will young people get out of it?
Our youth panel will get the chance to directly influence health policy, be involved in exciting research projects and support positive change in health services and practice. It is the perfect opportunity for young people to gain insight into different areas of the NHS and public health and develop their skills by working in partnership with our team, including participation experts and researchers as well as other young people.

What is the commitment?
We are asking young people to commit to 2 years on the panel (with an opt out after one year). They will meet once every two months online with some face to face meetings when that becomes possible. We want to recruit a group of 12 to 20 young people aged 10 – 25 years old to work with us.

Who can apply?
We are encouraging applications from young people from across the UK with a range of experiences of health, wellbeing and from all backgrounds. AYPH staff, trustees and young people we already work with will help us select a panel which reflects as much diversity as possible. The application is an online survey, however if this is not accessible you can contact us and request a Word version of the application or download a copy here. We will also accept video applications. The deadline for applications is the 31 August 2020.

We would love to open this opportunity to the young people in your networks and ask that you help us spread the word to all young people who would benefit from this role.

No Excuse to Forget About Young People's Rights

Amy, one of the Youth Advisers on our We're All Right project writes a passionate argument about why this pandemic is no excuse to forget about the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC). She explains: 'now more than ever adults need to be reminded about the rights we have as young people and their responsibility to uphold and promote our rights at all times no matter what.'

The We’re All Right project is AYPH’s participation project looking at the rights of young people affected by sexual violence, funded by  the Samworth Foundation’s Young Voices stream. We will use this funding to develop a rights-based approach to working with young people affected by sexual violence.
