Summer news update
We have hit the 1K mark in facemask distribution! It's at around 1,100 right now. As masks become more and more mandatory, we expect the number to rise again shortly. Donations for the masks are over $1,000 now, too, making this our unintentional biggest fundraiser of the past few years!
If you know of anyone/any place needing masks, let us know, and if you want to help make them, let us know that, too!
We can still use knitted hearts, but the need -- thank goodness! -- is not as high now. We have another 20 or so sets on hand to drop off to the hospital as soon as we get the word.
Breaking news regarding the Little Free Pantry is that just this week we found a place for all that frozen meat we've been worrying about (worrying because we knew people needed it and yet it was sitting in our freezer), for the overflow of canned goods in the hall, as well as the supplies that were purchased for the March "Gratuitous Grub" luncheon that never happened, and for some donated gift cards.
We connected with Janet at Wulamaliswiikaan, the Delaware Nation Health Centre, and she is getting the food to families and seniors who need it. Just like St. Matthew's, Wulamaliswiikaan does a popular regular community soup and sandwich lunch, and on top of that puts on senior suppers and packs boxes of supplies for families to pick up through the Wiingun Miichuwaakan (Good Food) program.
They're doing wonderful work!
As Mother Lisa puts it, this is "a real connection between people and communities." We'll do our best to strengthen it!
And a little like the oil and flour story in First Kings, even though we packed everything off, the pantry uptown in Florence is still as full as ever!
