Member Newsletter

Dear <<First Name>>,

It’s been some time since our last update, so we wanted to let you know how things were going.

Since opened back up to members in June we’ve seen many of our members return to the space working on their projects. We’re glad to see that everyone is in it together and trying to do their part to keep each other safe.

COVID Rules for Members has minor changes:

At our recent COVID Task Force meetings we made some minor clarifications to some of the COVID Rules for Members. The highlights are:
  • 24 hour/Maker's Guild access has been reinstated
  • Reservations aren't limited to 4 hours per day, just 4 hours at a time. These can be renewed as you go. (important: using the Time Reserve system is still required)
  • Some clarification on what you use for sanitizing surfaces/tools. (Bleach -> use on everything besides unpainted metal. Alcohol -> safe for metal surfaces)
  • Changed some things to "try to"s, for example: Try to stay in one shop, and Try to limit the things you touch.

We are still running the Tool Loan Program!
If you’ve got projects you want to work on that you’d like to borrow tools for, we are still running the Tool Loan Program so you can take stuff home with you. Instructions are on the myTurn website we set up to manage this program. There you can find a list of tools, and after you create a free account you can borrow from anything in that list. We have specific pick-up days for Tuesday and Fridays between 12pm and 4pm.

If you need help learning how to use it, there’s a brief video here that can guide you through it.

New Member Sign-Ups:
Since case numbers in our region have been low, our COVID precautions seem effective, and we have adequate capacity in the space, our Board agreed that it was time to start allowing new member sign-ups again. We are metering the number of new sign-ups at 2 per week to help us keep an eye on capacity.

New members are directed to RSVP for a Member Orientation to hold their place in line so to speak.

There are many ways you can provide feedback:
As always, if you have any questions or concerns we encourage you to contact the shop via phone or email. If you’d like to drop us some feedback or suggestions anonymously, there is a general Feedback and Suggestions form here. We also have an email specifically for COVID-related feedback, covid@portcitymakerspace.com.

We also are continuing to host Member Meetings through Zoom every month, typically on the first Thursday. The next one is November 5th at 6pm. Let us know you're coming via eventbrite here. If you’d like to see some friendly faces and ask questions please join us! All members are encouraged to come and be informed and involved.

Virtual Events:
We are running virtual Open Hack Nights every Friday from 6 to 8pm! If you've never attended one, we'd love to see you there and see what projects you've been working on!

Are you interested in hosting a virtual event? A wood workers virtual hangout? Do you have an idea for a class you'd like to run? Reach out to our Programming Committee at programming@portcitymakerspace.com with your idea! You can utilize the Makerspace's Zoom account to host these events.

Volunteers needed to help with the daily sanitizing
As part of our new policies, we sanitize commonly touched surfaces every day in addition to asking members to sanitize what they touch. Please email alex@portcitymakerspace.com if you can spare 30-60 minutes a week to help with this!

Thank you for being a part of our community, and working with us to stay healthy and productive.  If you have questions, please call us at 603-373-1002 or email us at info@portcitymakerspace.com.
