Warden's Parish News 19 July

Dear friends

This week’s services are at 8am and 10am with Rev Esma Collins-Marks presiding.  Thank you Esma.

Thank You

As a parish we support many things and work well together – here are some of the “Thank you’s” due this week:

Hospi’s  Jammies in June Appeal

Thank you to everyone who donated PJ’s for Wellington Children’s hospital.  The 24 pairs will be winging their way to the hospital early next week so if you would still like to donate some the last chance will be on Sunday.

Gardening Bee

Thank you to all who came to the gardening/clean up working bee last Saturday.  A lot was achieved – the back of the hall, the deck and surrounding areas are all looking very smart as are the windows in the lounge.  The memorial blanket is back up having fallen down a few weeks ago.  The morning tea was very good!

Wellington City Mission

Thank you to everyone who brought food last Sunday.  Suselle was able to contact the City Mission this week and ask them to collect two big trays full of food and other essentials.
The need for donations such as this will not be going away anytime soon so please keep remembering about this and bring your donation to church.  Here is the list of the food that would be most helpful to them.

·  Baked Beans or Spaghetti ·  Pasta ·  Tea bags
·  Canned Fruit or Vegetables ·  Box of Cereal ·  Spreads
·  Canned Soup ·  Instant Noodles ·  Soap
·  Canned Pasta Sauce or Tomatoes ·  Rice ·  Toilet Paper
·  Canned Beans or Legumes ·  Flour ·  Sanitary products
·  Biscuits or Crackers ·  Sugar

Emergency meals

We would like to have a few emergency meals for people in the kitchen freezer– if you are able to help with making a meal or two please contact Lee and let her know.

Small groups

If you would like to start a small group Vestry can recommend the Lyfe series.  Vestry has been studying it for some time now and are finding it very good.  If you would like to hear more about it, please don’t hesitate to ask a vestry member.  The resources are all online and a video is included with each session  The study can be done weekly, fortnightly (as vestry are doing) or even monthly -there is no set time frame.

To end this week here is another piece from Joy Cowley’s ‘Psalms for the Road’.

Little Lights
Jesus spoke of little lights, candles, lamps,
Not great bonfires, just small steady flames to brighten some dark corner of the house.
Come to think of it, Jesus always preached little –
children, flowers, sparrows, the widow’s mite, mustard seeds, loaves and fishes.
He didn’t expect people to make great gestures.
I guess he knew that little is the currency of everyday living.
So, let’s thank God for all the little lights, the warm smile, the hug, the phone call,
A wave from a passing car, a cup of tea, an open door, a talent freely shared.
How often, when my own candle has gone out,
has someone relit it from their own lam of kindness?
That can’t happen with a big light.
I mean, how close can you get to a supernova?

God bless, keep warm.

Thank you for your donations and givings during 2019 / 2020.
All donation receipts have been send out.  Please contact the parish office via email on
office@onslowanglicans.org.nz if you have any queries.
We are very grateful to all of you who continue to support us financially, as the Parish needs to continue to meet various costs including wages, rates, some utilities, etc.  For those who can continue to provide support in these difficult times it would be much appreciated if envelope giving could be converted to direct debit to the parish bank account.
