Today, Governor Roy Cooper and NC educational leaders announced the decision to maintain the current physical closure of in-person instruction through the end of the 2019-2020 academic year. The Governor thanked the personnel and agencies who have stepped up to roll out e-learning tools and curricula, and announced new partnerships with AT&T and Duke Energy to expand the availabily of WiFi hotspots for families who still struggle with access to broadband Internet access.
In an April 23 press release, The North Carolina Department of Public Instruction described the year-end grading policy for K-12 public schools across the state. The release also outlined the short- and long-term priorities and goals to support and validate the efforts of our students, staff, and teachers during this difficult time.
State officials will provide additional year-end information and resources during the next few days.

The RJR Website has been updated with a Distance Learning Portal where you can find valuable information for keeping up with your R.J. Reynolds education while stay-at-home orders are in effect.

The President's Volunteer Service Award recognizes individuals and groups who perform community service. It is a national award. Students who are active in the community were encouraged to keep track of their hours from April 22, 2019 to April 9, 2020 and submit these hours to the Arts Magnet Director NO LATER THAN TODAY,April 24, 2020. Students will be recognized in the PTSA email newsletter, at Class Day, and on the RJR website.
Documenting Volunteer Hours: We will not require signatures this year in light of the pandemic. We still do need students to verify their hours. You may download the Sample Log Sheet here. Complete the log sheet and then scan it or take a picture and submit the log sheet in the next step.
Submitting Your Information: Please submit your application using this Google Form. Note: you will need to sign into Google using your school email address before you can access the form. Near the bottom of the form you will find a field allowing you to attach your log sheet(s) to the form before you submit it.
If printing is a barrier, you may list your hours (place of service, hours, job performed, contact information for the adult in charge) and email that list to ksmorris@wsfcs.k12.nc.us.
