Sarah Dunant on Venice: Dressed and Undressed
The next film in our Lectures at Home series - Venice: Dressed and Undressed with Arts Society Accredited Lecturer, Sarah Dunant - is now available to view at connected.theartssociety.org.
At the turn of the 16th century Venice was one of the wealthiest and most stable cities in Europe, sporting a vibrant artistic culture. With an international trade in fabrics, she was, in all senses, a well dressed state. But underneath the pomp and ceremony there was another trade going on in Venice; one which encouraged the taking off of clothes.
In this online lecture, historian and writer Sarah Dunant who has written a number of novels set in this period, looks at two artistic masterpieces by two of Venice's most famous artists to tell the story of the city, dressed and undressed.
