Hello, FUMCPB Family!

Here is your weekly update.

ANNOUNCEMENTS

We have a limited number of Upper Room devotional books available in the office.  If you would like one, you can make arrangements to pick up at the church office or request to have one delivered to you. First come, first served.
We are needing some volunteers who would like to deliver the May Newsletter to your neighbors, local members, and families.  If you are interested in helping out on any of the following dates, 4/28-4/30, please contact the church office.
Thank you!
The Phoenix Sunday school class song books are missing.  There were 2 sets; an older brown paper back version, and a new yellow spiral version.  If you have any knowledge of where these song books have went, will you please contact the church office?  If you happen to have 1 of these songs books, will you please return it?  Books can be brought to the church office, or you can place individual books in the drop/mailbox out side.
Thank you

Dreams VS Reality

I can’t wait to see everyone in person again for small groups and worship.  I know many of you like me, had a dream that we would have this wonderful first Sunday back with a big United Sunday with everyone in one room, if it could hold everyone and we would blow the doors off with our voices raised in song.  It is a great vision that will happen one day in the future.

The reality is that what the government is suggesting and health experts are telling us that reopening in May might look more like baby steps on the way to that larger vision.  We will still need to find ways to practice social distancing and keep each other safe.  At our church council meeting this sunday evening over Zoom, we will begin to talk about what that will look like for us and as a staff we have already begun to have those conversations.

One thing we know for certain, many of our members and friends will choose to continue to worship online and on TV for a while because they will feel safer.  I have many friends in the high risk group who know it’s going to be a long time before they will feel comfortable joining in group gatherings.  So we will continue to do as high a quality online worship and groups as we possibly can.  We will also suggest to our groups and teams that for their meetings they find a way to include persons at home. Even our staff is learning how to meet online because most of our staff have other jobs and it’s easier for us to meet online than try to find time for in person meetings.  We were forced to learn how to do things in a new way.

So as we think and pray through how we can best reopen our in person groups and worship, let us also think and pray about how we can continue to include persons in new and different ways that meet their needs.  Not everyone will hear the gospel in the same way, but everyone needs and wants to hear the “Good News” that Jesus loves them and God has already welcomed them into the Kingdom.  That’s something to celebrate whether it is in person, online or ways we haven’t even thought of yet.

If you have ideas or suggestions please let us know, because call is for all of us to be sharing God’s love with others.

Your Pastor,
David

Easter Sunday was not a peaceful day for many people in the Southern U.S.  People from Texas, Arkansas, Louisiana and as far east as the Carolinas were impacted by storms and deadly tornadoes. Missouri Disaster Response continues to assess the situation and determine how best for our local churches to serve. We have not received any direct request for physical assistance, which is proving difficult for emergency managers given the current state of social distancing. Additionally, we have not received any requests for items or funds as of yet. If you or your church would like to donate money, please give to United States Disaster Response and Recovery through Advance #901670.
