Can you do the splits?

You are invited to join in a journey of flexibility, growth, and self-exploration. Also,

HERE'S A PROJECT!

If you’ve been taking my Sunday morning virtual barre classes @AutonomyMovement, you hear me encourage “slide into your splits, if you’d like” during our end-of-class stretches. ⠀

Maybe you’re thinking, “Why would I slide into my splits?! I don’t have any splits.”⠀

To that I say:⠀
Since we are all hanging out at home a little more, I don’t see why we can’t all be practicing OUR SPLITS.⠀

So, do this with me:⠀

Each Monday/Wednesday/Friday I will post for your
#splitschallenge. ⠀

MY goal is, in my studio classes post
#pandemic, for you all to SLIDE INTO YOUR SPLITS when I offer that during our stretch. ⠀

You can have a different goal, especially if you are enjoying my virtual classes from home now and aren’t in Austin to show me your flexibility when we meet again. ⠀

🌟Maybe you want to bring a little more blood flow and flexibility into your body, especially since you feel more cooped up than before.⠀
🌟Maybe you used to do the splits when you were younger and wonder if you’d ever do them again.⠀
🌟Maybe you just want something to work on. be focused on, and see some progress with in the coming weeks.⠀

Be real now: ⠀
Since all of our bodies are (thank goodness) very different from one another, there is no prescription about when/if you will fully reach a full split. If you see other posts with this # indicating that you will be doing the splits in X number of days, come back to reality with me and remember how dumb any “GET ___ IN ___ DAYS!” claim is.⠀

⏺There are 3 things that prevent flexibility:⠀
▫️muscle tightness (what we are altering with this practice), ⠀
▫️bone structure (what Marilyn Manson was rumored to have adjusted to improve his flexibility), and ⠀
▫️skin. ⠀
Those last two aren’t changing, so no matter how flexi your muscles are, some bodies do some things and not others. Awesome. We need each of us to be our unique selves. ⠀
All of this is said to keep in mind that the whole point of this lovely little journey is for the joy of the journey, not the destination. ⠀

⭐️

Secretly, there are other benefits to participating, which include but are not limited to

*connection with your physical self (great if you are "in your head" a lot)
*better posture
*a "smoke break" during the day, that is healthy and energizing
*structure. We all need structure. Here's an element you can count on each day.
*a goal to work towards and see progress with. You may or may not ever do the splits. Participate in this challenge and enjoy working on something that helps your body and mind. And connects you to all the other people working on splits in their bedrooms and living rooms and home offices with us!

To participate, follow @move_with_Kathryn on Instragram.

I'll post for your #SplitsChallenge each Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.

Join in! No one can see you!
But maybe at some point you'll want to show off how far you've come!
