Representative Roberts and MLBC Urge Governor to Expand Mail-In Ballots

Yesterday, I sent a letter to Governor Parson on behalf of the Missouri Legislative Black Caucus, urging an exemption during a public health emergency to allow for more expansive mail-in ballots. I further proposed that requirement for absentee ballots to be notarized waived.

With the chaos of the Wisconsin Primary election fresh in our minds, there is no justifiable reason to put thousands of poll workers at risk. It would be unconscionable to force same day voters to endure exceptionally long lines due to social distancing measures, and cause our vulnerable populations to choose between risking their health and exercising their right to vote.

These changes will be easier to implement quickly while the state moves, hopefully, to a modern mail-in ballot system. Such systems have proven secure and safeguarded against fraud. A copy of the letter is attached below. Please consider contacting the Governor's Office at (573) 751-3222 to express your concerns.

Yours in service,

Representative Steve Roberts
