The APOST Summer Conference for Out-of-School Time Goes Virtual!

Still looking for PD to prepare for summer programming whether virtual or in person? You’re in luck! The APOST Summer Conference for Out-of-School Time is going virtual! We’re planning to have six days of virtual professional development opportunities spanned out over two weeks in late May and early June on May 26, 27, 29, and June 1, 3, and 5, but we’ll need help from you to put together a few more relevant and interesting topics to bring to providers in this difficult time. If you’re interested in presenting a workshop, please fill out our brief RFP here. If you filled out our RFP for the Summer Conference prior to all this, we’ll be in touch.

We hope you save the dates and that we have a chance to connect with you soon! Be on the lookout for more information, and if you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to jaron.paul@unitedwayswpa.org.

Survey: COVID-19's Impact on Youth Workers

How is the COVID-19 pandemic impacting youth workers? If you are an adult in all levels and in all departments who works in a youth serving organization please participate in a research study being conducted by APOST and the University of Pittsburgh. Results from the study will assist this partnership with coordinating, creating, and compiling professional development experiences and resources during this time of crisis and next steps following the COVID-19 pandemic. There are two surveys – one is focused on you as a youth worker (bit.ly/ywadcp2020) and the other is focused on your organization (the first survey will link you to the second survey). For questions regarding the study contact Debralyn Woodberry-Shaw at diw28@pitt.edu.  For questions regarding APOST contact Stephanie Lewis at stephanie.lewis@unitedwayswpa.org.

Addressing Helper's Trauma: How to be Fully Present with Young People

This Friday, April 24th at 10:00 AM we'll be offering our first virtual professional development offering, Addressing Helper's Trauma: How to be Fully Present with Youth, presented by Debralyn Woodberry-Shaw of ELIE Circle. Participants in this professional development session will learn about helper's trauma, and practice techniques that could protect against it including mindfulness, self-awareness, and self-care. While this workshop is not directly COVID-19 related, we sincerely hope these practices can aid you in your programs as well as with everything going on in life, currently. See you then! To register, use this link here, and for any questions or concerns, feel free to contact jaron.paul@unitedwayswpa.org.
