La Rose Sous Les Boulets (The Rose of No Man’s Land) references a song honoring the nurses in the Red Cross during WWI in 1918, the same year as the Spanish Flu pandemic.
@gracelandtattoo posted an old photograph of this woman in honor of the nurses and health care professionals who bravely care for so many sick and dying from this pandemic, and I was inspired to paint her. I pray for the nurses and the healthcare professionals who courageously tend to so many sick and dying alone. I pray that everyone continues to take this quarantine seriously so we don’t have a second wave of illness. I pray that everyone reflects and observes our lifestyles and how we can shape them towards more compassion for each other and the environment. I pray for everyone who is fighting this sickness to recover and be with their families again.

We are never guaranteed tomorrow. It’s a phrase beckoning intention to not take a moment, a feeling, a relationship for granted. The only thing certain in life is change, so take every day in with great respect. The flower and the bone are the same in time.
