LOOK FOR THE HELPERS

When I was a boy and I would see scary things in the news, my mother would say to me, Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping.”
-Fred Rogers

Our 2020 Summer Programs...

As circumstances allow, the ABWF intends to forge ahead with our normal plan for projects and programs this summer, including our Wilderness Interns and Program Director--unless you hear from us otherwise.  If we are unable to carry out our planned trail projects (see our website), we hope to nonetheless provide opportunities for the public by offering guided interpretive hikes, nature walks, and campfire programs all across the A-B Wilderness.

ABWF WELCOMES BEN DALEY, Programs Director and Trail Crewleader

While leading a month-long backpacking trip in the Beartooth's in 2016, Ben was inspired to return again to Red Lodge. Since then, he has been working as an overseas educator, primarily instructing semester abroad programs in Bolivia and Peru. Whether in the Andes or the Rockies, Ben works to understand the natural and cultural histories of mountain landscapes while connecting with the people that call them home. Since landing in Red Lodge this winter, he is excited to put down roots in the Absaroka-Beartooth Wilderness, cultivating stewardship through education and trail work.

WELCOME, ANDE PEERSEN!

Hi! My name is Ande Peersen and I’m from Fort Collins, Colorado. I’m graduating from Centre College in Danville, Kentucky in May and am excited to spend the summer in the AB Wilderness afterwards! Future plans are up in the air, but I’m thinking something with conservation and environmental politics. I’m really looking forward to exploring the Montana backcountry this summer and learning about the maintenance and conservation of wilderness areas.

WELCOME, GRAYSON NOLAN!

My name is Grayson Nolan. I will be graduating from University of Minnesota-Duluth with a degree in Environmental Outdoor Education at the end of this summer. I grew up in Macomb, Illinois.  After finishing high school and community college there, I moved to Duluth MN to attend the UM-Duluth.  Some of my hobbies are rock climbing, photography and hiking.

WELCOME, TREVOR HAWKINS!

My name is Trevor Hawkins and I am a recent graduate with degree in Environmental Science from Waynesburg University in Pennsylvania. Growing up in Annapolis, Maryland, I have enjoyed many outdoor activities such as boating, kayaking, hiking and fishing located on and near the Chesapeake Bay where I have developed my passion for wildlife and resource conservation. My future goal is to work in some capacity in a wildlife conservation field.
