Weird contradiction: the world is in isolation, but we’re all focused on a common enemy.

So we are isolated, yet together in a common purpose.
We’re all looking at the same charts, using a handful of online video apps and common vocabulary....  all around the globe at the same time. There’s a unity in that.

Dietrich Bonhoeffer speaks of 2 modes of community:
1. Being WITH people..... around a table, able to hug, in the presence of each other.
2. Being FOR the other; a posture towards other people.

Acts Chapter 2 includes both of these aspects.
2 Corinthians 1 shows how Paul wanted to be WITH the believers at Corinth, but he was definitely FOR them.  See below.
My Present situation:

Personally, I’m locked down in a calm and kind house with two housemates and Lui the dog.

Nationally, 🇳🇿 most cases can be traced directly to international travel, thus my self isolation upon return on 20th March.
NZ’s community transmission has been significant in the tracing;
100 from a school because of one infected person.
90 from a wedding in Bluff because of one infected person.
90 from a bar in Matamata because of one infected person.
All of these clusters spreading while still in lockdown within the 14 day incubation period.
Imagine those numbers and the new clusters if we were all walking around as normal.

Scriptural truth is our guide and comfort.

“All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. God is our merciful Father and the source of all comfort. He comforts us in all our troubles so that we can comfort others. When they are troubled, we will be able to give them the same comfort God has given us. For the more we suffer for Christ, the more God will shower us with his comfort through Christ. Even when we are weighed down with troubles, it is for your comfort and salvation! For when we ourselves are comforted, we will certainly comfort you. Then you can patiently endure the same things we suffer. We are confident that as you share in our sufferings, you will also share in the comfort God gives us. We think you ought to know, dear brothers and sisters, about the trouble we went through in the province of Asia. We were crushed and overwhelmed beyond our ability to endure, and we thought we would never live through it. In fact, we expected to die. But as a result, we stopped relying on ourselves and learned to rely only on God, who raises the dead. And he did rescue us from mortal danger, and he will rescue us again. We have placed our confidence in him, and he will continue to rescue us. And you are helping us by praying for us. Then many people will give thanks because God has graciously answered so many prayers for our safety.”   ~Paul, a Jewish citizen of Rome to congregations he couldn’t visit right then. 2 Corinthians‬ ‭1:3-11‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Just a note on finances:

If not for two unexpected donations last year, we would have been $6000+ in the red, a deficit that would’ve been painful to say the least! If your circumstances are such that you could partner with us in this ministry, please know that:
• 100% of what you donate goes to ministries under my direct supervision.
• There is a paper trail, as in a receipt, for every dollar spent. I send those receipts in an expense report to Cheryl and she reimburses based n evidence of expenditure. It’s a system that works for me and has integrity.
• If you ever have a question about finances or decisions, ask. Transparency and integrity are values I’ve long held, and especially since starting out in direct support ministry in 1980.
• Just because I’ve been at this a long time doesn’t mean the accounts refill every month. Many of my original partners have had changed circumstances and can no longer partner financially. Many have preceded us to heaven.
• Jesus said to go make disciples. Matthew 28.  Paul says to proclaim Him. Col 1:28  This ministry is focused on those very objectives, helping people connect with Jesus and with a church for ongoing growth and ministry. My contexts for ministry are: Church, Campus & Community.
