Are you coming to our virtual gathering on Wednesday?
Join our virtual catch up Wednesday 29 April, 3-5pm
At your house, via Zoom. Registrations essential. Once registered, we’ll send you instructions on how to join.
Let's keep connected, and share ideas about progressing sustainability now and into the future.
Join us for a virtual gathering of Sustainable Neighbourhood volunteers from around Lake Macquarie.
We’ll be asking each group to provide a 6 minute report about:
How is your group operating within physical distancing restrictions? Any projects still happening?
A lesson or idea for Sustainable Neighbourhoods that this pandemic has inspired. What positive new behaviours can we encourage and sustain in the longer term.
What’s the first thing your group will do when restrictions are removed?
All welcome! Looking forward to 'seeing' you there.
Please let Rachelle know if you have any questions in the mean time, or would like to raise anything in particular at the catch up.
Future of waste and plastics in NSW
The NSW Government is seeking feedback on the future of plastics in NSW and a range of options that will help shape the development of how we manage waste over the next 20 years.
Two papers addressing these issues are now available for public and industry comment.
Cleaning Up Our Act: Redirecting the Future of Plastics in NSW is the first step in developing a new, comprehensive approach to plastic use, reuse and disposal in NSW. This plan will help transform how we use and manage plastic in NSW. yoursay.dpie.nsw.gov.au/plastics-plan
The Future for Waste and Resource Recovery in NSW outlines potential directions we can take to shape our future waste recycling system, to deliver new industry and job opportunities and protect our environment and human health. yoursay.dpie.nsw.gov.au/20-year-waste-strategy
We've got some great online Waste to Art activities in the works to provide some inspiration over the coming months.
We'll be publishing the activities on our new instagram page: @Waste_to_Art_Lake_Mac
Follow us today to keep up to date.
If you're looking for a fun challenge at home, why not make a start on your Waste to Art piece?
See if you can use items from your home that were destined for the garbage or recycling bin.
Explore and share your ideas about waste, litter and overconsumption and showcase your artistic ability. Community members, artists, groups and school students from across the region are invited to create an artwork for our exhibition in October.

Connection Cards
Have you used these cards to connect with your neighbours? We'd love to hear stories from your neighbourhood about how your community is staying connected, and helping each other out.
Keep connected
We'll continue to keep in touch, and look forward to getting together in the same room again when we can.
