Association of Committed and Engaged Youth Instagram Live 3D

The Association of Committed and Engaged Youth (ACEY)’s Instagram Live 3D Sessions are back this Friday, April 24, 2020 from 6 pm to 7:30 pm!

Supports for East Scarborough TDSB Students: devices & grocery cards 

 

1. Access to internet & devices for at-home learning

TDSB Students
: Do you need an Internet enabled electronic device? You can get one from your school. You might get a chromebook, ipad or other device, depending on your grade level. Please contact your school directly, or you can also contact the staff at The Storefront at 416-208-9889 who will help you access this resource.


2. More East Scarborough TDSB Students Eligible for $50 Grocery Card

Students from some additional Ward 19 TDSB Schools are eligible for a $50 grocery card. If you know a student who attends one of the schools listed here, please tell them to click here to apply for their grocery card online.

If accessing the online form is a challenge, you can request the card by phone: Call Trustee Patel's office at 416-395-8787 or call The Storefront at 416-208-9889 and staff will help!

East Scarborough Boys and Girls Club goes virtual!
 

 
  • The Scarborough East EarlyON Centres operated by the Boys & Girls Club of East Scarborough are offering a variety of on-line programs throughout each week.  Registration is required, families can click here to register for programs. Search for EarlyOn Virtual and the list of programs will be available. See flyer for weekly events. We look forward to seeing you online!

Virtual Citizenship Circle
Newcomers who are thinking of applying for their Canadian citizenship or have applied and waiting for their test, join our weekly online citizenship circle to familiar with the text from the Discover Canada study guide, participate in discussions, ask questions, and test knowledge with weekly quizzes.   • As per IRCC criteria, immigration documents are required.
Virtual NEAT Volunteers Orientation
Newcomers to Canada! Learn about your role as a volunteer event planner with Newcomers Explore and Appreciate Toronto (NEAT) mentorship program

  • Online orientation session is taking place on Wednesday, April 22 from 6 pm to 8 pm including virtual meetings with mentors.
  • Contact the staff for more information and to get access to the session link.
  • As per the IRCC criteria, immigration document is required. LINC level 4 and up are recommended for this program.
 
Newcomers Speak Up for Success
Newcomers to Canada! Practice your public speaking and presentation skills in an online learning environment with the support and tips from the mentors, once a week on Tuesday evenings, from 6 pm to 8 pm. Sign up is on-going. See flyer for more details. 
  • Contact the staff for further details and to get access to the Zoom meeting links.

Free Webinar: Housing & Employment During COVID-19

Join Agincourt Community Services Association’s webinar on Thursday April 23rd from 10 AM to 12 PM on Updates on Housing and Employment due to Covid-19. 

We have heard a lot of questions and challenges brought forward by our newcomers and community members which led us to create a series of webinars that will somehow address those questions. Register here.

East Metro Youth Services Newcomer Programs

East Metro Youth Services Newcomer Programs this week (April 20-24): Check out this week’s calendar of virtual programs! We serve newcomer youth ages 12-21, who have permanent resident or conventional refugee status. Not to mention you will get a prize if you participate!

Financial Supports Updates

  • Wondering how getting CERB will affect your OW/ODSP payment, if you qualify for CERB and also receive social assistance? On Monday, the Ontario government confirmed that people receiving social assistance who have enough earned income to qualify for CERB* will be able to keep $1,100 of their monthly CERB benefit and will not lose access to health benefits. More information from a Toronto Star article, April 20. *Please note that not all people receiving OW/ODSP are eligible for CERB. Those who have earned income from employment may be eligible. See CERB eligibility and speak to your caseworker for details.

  • Free single session virtual counselling: Call 416-595-9618 for a free telephone mental health counselling session from Family Service Toronto. One 50 minute session for people ages 18 and up. Flyer here

  • Anxious Times Support: free online drop-in group sessions led by psychotherapists Tanya Kowalenko and Moin Subhani. Register here.

  • Mindfulness Daily: a free 40-day mindfulness meditation course (15 min/day) by Tara Brach and Jack Kornfield. Register here.

Free Online Smart Serve Training 

For the month of April, online Smart Serve training is available for free.

This individual Certification training prepares you to work in any environment where alcohol is sold, served, or sampled in the province of Ontario.This training is available for anyone over 18 years of age.

The online program is fully translated and available in six different languages: English, French, Chinese, Korean, Punjabi, and Spanish. Learn more and register here.
