For Erebus, for Dionysus. For Phobos. For Terpsichore. For Chaos.
Are you: OVERWHELMED LONESOME STUCK?

Today, (what day is it?) burnout and stagnation are commonplace, and we’re trapped in a frantic echo chamber of information, evidence, facts, and rules. Over and over and over. We are being misguided and misled, in equal parts, by panic and ennui. And it drowns out so much else.

What is panic?

A strange time-traveling emotion, where one experiences some anticipated future as if it’s the present.

What is ennui?

A lethargic boredom so complete as to render us catatonic.

I ask: Where does it come from? I ask: Whose is it? I ask: What else is there?

There is an itching for a bend or break in these days that limp along on, bleeding into one another, dazedly. What day is it again? When will things go back to normal? Will they ever? Should they?

When we’re afraid of the unknown, of the uncertainty, we become trapped in it. We are drunk on panic, and ennui is our hangover. Over and over and over again, we become, chained, enslaved, and addicted to the cycle.

But here’s a freeing little secret: this uncertainty is the only thing certain. And here’s another one: uncertainty is exciting.

We’ve been fiddling around in a time in which this thin veil of basic regularity is the norm. But nothing is certain, nothing has ever been certain. It’s nothing new! Stability is a pretty lie that’s been told for some time, and this time has exposed the true and certain uncertainty of our world.

It’s as if the world has changed its tune. It’s like we have been dancing to a familiar song, and suddenly, the song has changed, what has come on is some new and unknown song. But when a new song comes on, do we just stop dancing?

I advocate for dancing with the unknown.

There is joy and excitement in the unknown! It is not only terrifying but also place of possibility and of the limitless. And now the veil has lifted and we are seeing the world with fresh eyes, curious eyes, like the eyes of a child with so much joyful unknowing, so much imagination, and inspiration, and play.

Shrug off the veil of knowing.

The weight of certainty has been lifted up and we are struck dumb with the how the world really is, always has been.

Shrug off the weight of certainty.

The straightjacket of time is loosened and we have been given as close to a timeless time as we have ever been.

Shrug off the straightjacket of time.

Invoking the child inside of you, I invite you to fill your days jealously and greedily with joy and with freedom and with imagination and with love.

The secret is: You don’t need permission to give these gifts to yourself!

Go on: dance and play and romp with the unknown! Dismantle the panic and ennui!

xoxo
