Jekka's tips for your summer garden

Now the clocks have changed and we are having an unseasonably dry April, it is time to start planting out and finishing late spring pruning.

For inspiration please see Jekka's new blog that is part of the ‘Jekka’s Seasonal Tips’ series and highlights what you should be thinking about at this time of year. Whether you have a garden, balcony or little herb patch there is always something to keep you busy when growing herbs or plants.

This is the best time of year as everything comes alive, some of our plants are literally buzzing with life as the honey bees are now active. Also, Jekka's herbs were grown to be ready for Chelsea; our Angelica's are looking stunning, the Rosemarys are in flower and the Thymes are budding. The season is well underway.

This wonderful picture of a Honey Bee on Jekka's Thyme was taken by Caroline Sandrey, who is currently busy packing all of your seeds.

Jekka's French Tarragon Vinegar

Our Herb of the Month is French Tarragon (Artemisia dracunculus), which has a lovely, delicate anise flavour that changes with the seasons.

Its flavour promotes appetite and complements so many dishes; such as chicken, veal, fish and stuffed tomatoes.

With the new growth it is the perfect time to make your own French Tarragon vinegar, which is simple to do and adds so much flavour to many dishes from mayonnaise to risotto.

Jekka's May Open Days

Given the ever evolving situation with Coronavirus (COVID-19) we are sadly cancelling our May Open Days that were due to take place on 1st and 2nd May. Our thoughts are with everyone effected, our fellow nurseries and horticulturists as well as the NHS.

We hope to be able to invite you to the farm in the near future. Please follow our instagram @jekkasherbfarm or check our online statement for announcements.
