Hello friends and families of the Family Room,
What does a place that's known for building community and reducing isolation do when people can't gather? We've shifted our service delivery from being a place to gather and build a strong community, to a network of people reaching out to families at home to prevent and reduce stress, isolation, and ultimately childhood trauma. Read below to see how!

100+ Masks distributed
Keeping people safe

Parents, volunteers, and staff have been busy making hundreds of fabric masks to provide to community partners, people working with us on site, and to families delivered in their food boxes. Masks are important in slowing down the transmission of covid-19, for times when we must interface with people outside of our homes.

Keeping children learning and playing
With weekly delivery of learning materials related to the Vermont Early Learning Standards, we've been able to help make it a little easier to keep children engaged and learning. Play is a vital tool for dealing with new and confusing circumstances!

Keeping people well

Encouraging continuation of relationships, we've started streaming live music and stories with Keegan and Jackie. Each morning at 9:00, Keegan offers ukulele tunes, parenting considerations (in real-time with real kids!), and activities.  Jackie follows up with stories and relevant life connections, and literacy tips. Also, Family Room offers live and interactive circle-time for preschoolers, movement sessions on Fridays, and real-time Zoom meetings for parent support. We recognize the importance of maintaining trusted relationships during times of stress and trauma, so providing a (distanced) shoulder to cry on, an ear to vent to, or even someone to share gratitude with has been appreciated by many of our families during our individual weekly check-ins.

30+ direct volunteers and partners
Keeping the community involved
When people heard that we were looking for books and materials to distribute to children, we had a great response from the community and after several days in isolation, we were able to distribute loads of books, art supplies, and toys. Also, meals! We wouldn't be able to deliver such nutritious and delicious meals without food from:
A Single Pebble
August First
City Market
Intervale Community Farm
Skinny Pancake
Sweetwaters
Vermont Foodbank

THANK YOU!

Keeping meals nutritious

Boxes of produce are distributed to vulnerable families. These boxes not only include pantry staples and learning materials, but they are loaded with nutrition, like fresh fruit and vegetables and meals from the restaurants listed above.

Keeping families happy and healthy

Feeling safe, fed, learning and connected during this isolating and scary time is important for individual families and the community at large.  We are happy to provide these safeguards to our community and recognize that we would not be able to do it without our community partners, volunteers, donors, and funders. Thank you!
