SHELTERING IN PEACE

A weekly newsletter from

Prince of Peace Lutheran Church

Thursday, April 23, 2020

Welcome to Sheltering in Peace,
an online version of our weekly newsletter

During the COVID-19 pandemic, our worship services have moved online, and all in-person activities have been suspended.

And yet, ministry still continues. Starting this week, we are producing an online version of Peace Signs, called Sheltering in Peace, to report on ongoing activities and news.

We hope that you enjoy reading these short articles. Please let us know what you think.

Look for an email on Saturday afternoon with a link to this weekend's the worship service video. Subscribe to our YouTube channel, with links to all of our worship services while we are sheltering in peace.

Church Council Meeting Held April 14

Church Council met for its regularly scheduled monthly meeting on Tuesday, April 14 using virtual meeting software. You may read the Meeting Minutes here. Church Council will continue to meet on the second Tuesday of each month.
Little Shepherds Update

In mid-March, Little Shepherds suspended classes in accordance with Governor DeWine's order and will remain closed for the rest of this school year.

Since the closing, preschool teachers continue to stay in touch with their students by sending emails, story-time videos, mailing cards, letters and activity packets. Families are participating in Zoom dates. A cup of caterpillars was sent to each family's home. Look around -- maybe you will see some butterflies raised by our children flying around Dublin!

Final tuition payments were waived for preschool families; however, several families generously elected to pay their payments in support of the program. The preschool remains committed to meet payroll agreements with staff and appreciates the donations.

Little Shepherds applied for a Small Business Administration Payroll Protection Program loan on April 8. The Church Council approved this action at last week's meeting. Little Shepherds is currently awaiting status of its application.

We are still working on details for school year 2020-2021. When it is safe to gather again, we will do so. We are committed to providing a safe, loving and age-appropriate environment for learning.

Blood Drive for Nick Butler

Indian Run United Methodist Church is sponsoring a blood drive in support of Prince of Peace member Nick Butler. We are happy to report that Nick was released from the hospital last Saturday, April 18 and is now recovering at home. Our prayers are with Nick and his family.

The drive will be held on Saturday, April 25 from 8:00 am to 3:00 pm at Indian Run United Methodist Church, 6305 Brand Road, Dublin, Ohio.

Please join to help Nick and all suffering with the effects of COVID-19.

Welcome Warehouse needs our help! We are partnering to host our first ever donation drive-thru to help restock Welcome Warehouse's personal care pantry. From the safety of your car, you can donate items like shampoo, soap, and toothpaste on Thursday, April 30 from 11 am to 1 pm in the Prince of Peace parking lot. Welcome Warehouse helps families in the Dublin community who are temporarily in need. Read more about our drive, including items needed, here.

Sewing Masks
Masks for Prince of Peace Members and for Lutheran World Relief

Ready to dust off the old sewing machine? This sewing Pattern for face masks was created by the Medical College of Wisconsin, is easy to follow, and makes a mask that will hold up to lots of washing. And, no elastic is needed! All masks should be washed before and after each use.

Are you a Sewer?
Would you be interested in making masks for others? If so, please contact Jocelyn Alford. In next week's Sheltering in Peace, we hope to publish a list of sewers who would be willing to make a mask or two for fellow Prince of Peace members.

75,000 Face Mask Challenge

Prince of Peace is also collecting masks for Lutheran World Relief. LWR has organized an effort to collect 75,000 masks for developing countries. Starting Friday, April 24, 1:00 pm, you may drop off masks into a blue crate placed at the front (east) entrance of the church. LWR is also accepting monetary donations toward this effort.
