Given that everything else is now online, we at UCPL figured it was high time to take our monthly newsletter online too! This new format will provide much of the same content you've come to expect from the monthly print version, delivered directly to your inbox. Read on for updates on summer reading and our annual Friends of the Library Trivia Night! And make sure you keep visiting our website, www.ucitylibrary.org, to access all of those online books, movies, music, and more!

Youth Summer Reading will be online

With summer plans up in the air this year, UCPL's youth services staffers are working hard to make sure that summer reading is available to everyone online. We're currently working with performers to sort out online presentations, and we're learning a new program that will allow us to track reading times, spin the prize wheel, and everything else you've come to expect from a UCPL summer reading program. Keep an eye on our website, www.ucitylibrary.org, for more information on summer reading. We can't wait to read and celebrate the summer with you!

The Big Book Challenge is coming soon

We may not be in the Library these days, but that doesn't mean we won't read together this summer! This year, we're changing up our Big Book Challenge Adult Summer Reading program and offering a Choose Your Own Adventure option. This year, you can choose whether you want to read David Foster Wallace's Infinite Jest or Octavia Butler's dystopian duology, Parable of the Sower and Parable of the Talents.
Since we're still working out how to manage this summer reading online this year, we've pushed back the start date to early June. Updates will soon be made on our website, www.ucitylibrary.org, spelling out the details as soon as we have them. Make sure you follow us on social media to get more information as we sort out how to get this summer's Big Books into your hands!

Zoom over to Trivia Night May 9

The Friends of the University City Public Library will present its annual trivia night fundraiser for the Library via Zoom on Saturday, May 9 at 6:30 p.m. This event has long been the Friends’ trademark fundraiser for the University City Public Library, and the Friends decided that the Library’s closure and the state’s social distancing policies shouldn’t stop the fun. Rather, they decided to move the event online, and allow teams to compete from the comfort of their own homes. Given the fundraising nature of the event and the unusual circumstances of this year’s trivia night, no cash prizes will be awarded. Teams will compete for bragging rights only.
For those who wish to join the fun, send a check for $20 per player to: Friends of the University City Public Library c/o Jo Seltzer, 8001 Cornell Ave, University City, MO 63130. Please include your email address with the check. For those registering after May 1, it is possible to pay by credit card through PayPal. Email your number of players to UCLibraryFriends987@gmail.com and you will be invoiced, and sent Zoom instructions after payment. All payments must be received by May 7. As always, if you wish to play, but do not have a team, the Friends will provide you one.
