From the Principal

Happy Friday BC Families!

I hope you got the message from us yesterday about the Governor’s announcement to extend the current school closure through the end of the school year. This means our distance learning will continue through Tuesday, June 9th. While we are incredibly saddened by this announcement, we have been planning for this possibility and will finalize extension plans in partnership with our incredible teachers and staff. We are working on plans for how to wrap up the year with our community while keeping social distancing measures in place.

Please note that per the Governor's previous order, Friday and Monday, May 1st and 4th, will be planning days for staff to work on extending their distance learning and instruction. So, while learning may continue for students on these days, staff will not be available. We want to assure you we will continue working as hard as we can to deliver meaningful, Classical, and equitable distance learning for all of our students and families through the end of the school year.

The swapping of materials has been getting better and better each week. Thank you for meeting and greeting us at all the designated places. I have enjoyed swapping quick stories and appreciate the well wishes. If you could help us reuse the folders by preserving them and keeping them unsealed, that would be very helpful. We now more intimately know that it truly takes a village to raise and educate our children. Thank you for doing your best, and we’ll do our best to meet you in the middle.

Have a great weekend!

Free and Reduced-Price Economic Status
In your student’s packet this week you should’ve noticed a form if you have a change in your family’s economic status. We know that times are tough for many of our families and want to support you in whatever ways we can. If your situation has changed, please consider filling out and returning the form. There is a return envelope provided for you to seal and return. We hope to be able to provide lunches to all who may benefit from them.

Student Video Permissions
As a part of the distance learning program, SHPA staff have begun enhanced distance learning opportunities to continue meeting your child’s academic and social-emotional needs while they work from home. Many teachers are offering LIVE class sessions, video conferencing, or pre-recorded interactions through a number of tools including Google, Flipgrid, etc. While this may be an additional opportunity for teachers to meet face-to-face with your scholar(s), it is not required.
It is understood that permission has been granted for your child to participate in LIVE or recorded video sessions with their teacher(s) unless you decide to opt-out by filling out the Google Form below.

Family Tip of the Week
If your students are like mine, they want to connect with and please their teacher. We all need to maintain our human connections as much as possible. Have your student join a group chat or schedule an individual meeting with their teacher. If video conferencing doesn’t work for you at home, schedule a phone call.

Spring Online Book Fair: With our changing times and situations, the Spring Book Fair is moving to an online format.  The online fair will be held from Monday, April 27th through Sunday, May 10th.  This is a great way to get much needed books for your students and still support the school.  As with all fairs, 50% of all proceeds will be matched by Scholastic to help support the purchase of additional books and resources for our schools libraries.  Visit https://www.scholastic.com/bf/sevenhillspreparatoryacademy to start shopping on Monday, April 27th.

PTA Meeting: Please plan on attending the next PTA meeting, Thursday, May 21st  from 6:30 - 8:00 pm at the Bloomington Campus.  This will be a virtual meeting with details provided prior to the meeting.
