LETTER TO THE MAYOR: MORE SPACE FOR HUMANS

The Executive Committee of Hell's Kitchen Democrats joined many other transit experts, activists, residential and community groups this week calling for Mayor de Blasio to close neighborhood streets to traffic, giving more space for cyclists and pedestrians.

Speaker Corey Johnson introduced a bill on April 22 to close 75 miles of asphalt within the City.  Many other cities including Boston, Minneapolis, and Oakland have introduced similar plans.  Creating this space will relieve pressure on crowded parks and sidewalks, and allow people to get exercise while maintaining social distancing.

YOU COUNT!

Complete your census online right now by clicking HERE!  This U.S. Census website includes:
  • The online questionnaire
  • Language support
  • Census ID info
  • FAQs
  • And more!

Tuesday, April 28th was supposed to be our NYS Presidential Primary–our opportunity to cast a vote for a Democrat for President.  It would’ve felt good to do that in these days when the orange menace is proving time and time again he’s not fit to be leader of this country.

But Covid-19 is keeping us indoors, and the April 28th primary has been postponed.

Not to worry!

We will have opportunities to vote soon.  We’re working to find ways to make it easier.  There will be a roll-out of the Governor’s efforts to expand easier access to ballots.  There are plans being finalized to make sure we offer early voting, and still figuring out how to allow voters to vote in-person on June 23rd.

Vote from home if you can.

There will be some announcements in the coming weeks to implement plans for voting by mail.  As those details get worked out, keep your eyes open for announcements from us!

Your voice will still matter whenever we get the chance to cast our votes!
