✅ Checking In (And a Special Gift...)


Hello, Capristers!

I hope this finds you all well and managing successfully amid this crazy time.

Recently, someone asked me what kind of fiction I'm able to write amid the depressing COVID 19 chaos. And perhaps more to the point, he wanted to know, "Why do you keep doing it?"

Lightheartedly, I replied that the fiction I write is always the same. The good guys win and the bad guys lose. I find those themes infuse me with hope and a positive outlook on life, which is often sorely needed. 

As for why I continue writing fiction in what are surely some of the worst of times for our world, the answer to that is much more straightforward.

I write for you. I've always written for you. And as long as you keep reading and buying my books, I'll keep writing them. 

It's Day 28 for us now and we're hanging in. What we know for sure is that if we stay home, and be careful about what we allow inside to join us, we shouldn't get the virus. And that's enough reason for us to keep doing it as long as we can.

Well, that, and the fun we have with our little Miki. She thinks all this staying home stuff is great! This is one of my favorite photos of her. You can see how happy she is about being the center of our world at the moment, right?
 

I do worry about you all. I know it's not easy to stay isolated from friends and loved ones. Last time, I asked how you were all doing with your quarantines.

I received a lot of replies from Capristers all over the world. You told me you're handling this crisis with the same level of esprit de corps and grace under pressure we all expected.

Many of you wrote to say that reading helps to keep you healthy and strong during this crisis and always.

I'll share a few of your comments here. You'll see what I mean.

I live in a little seaside town… We walk on the beach each day with our two dogs Crumpet (golden retriever) and Stella the pug. What would we do without our animals  and books to read? 

From Susan in Wales:

I just wanted to say how gorgeous Miki is. You say Miki has walks 4 times a day, I don’t think my son's dog (Bailey) has that many but as he is a key worker, he has all his neighbours lining up to take Bailey out.

From Michael in Belfast, Northern Ireland:

Yes, we’re in lock down here in Northern Ireland ( & in that 70s age group means that we are vulnerable..) We had to make a very hasty exit from Costa Blanca in Spain. We drove with our caravan ( trailer to you) 3000 kilometres quite a drive. We’re home now & still livin in our trailer outside my son’s home. He & his lovely wife ( from California) are hoping that we can move into their home today or tomorrow after we have all completed our quarantine. Must say bye for now & look forward to reading more of your ‘stuff’
