St Georges Day 'Parade Online'

26th April 2020

Lots of people have been asking about St Georges Day this year and many Districts across the County have already put their plans out to their membership for what they plan to do in the absence of a physical parade.

We can confirm that Kent Scouts will be broadcasting an 'Online Parade' of sorts on Sunday 26th of April via Facebook Live and YouTube!

Full details of the 'parade' will be announced early next week so keep your eyes peeled!

#HikeToTheMoon

...and make things a little better back here on Earth

On 23 April, BBC Children in Need and Comic Relief are getting together for the Big Day In (on radio), and the Big Night In on BBC1 from 7pm. They'll celebrate the people making a difference across the UK and fundraise to support the people most affected by the coronavirus crisis.

Scouts in the UK are going on a #HikeToTheMoon! Young people, families, and volunteers like us are hiking at least a mile at home, donating, and supporting those who need it most with BBC Children in Need and Comic Relief.

Nights Away At Home

Advice and Support

Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and Explorers can take part in a sleepover or camping experience at home, under the supervision of their parents or guardians. This may be sleeping indoors in dens or out in the garden under canvas where possible.

Some Sections could organise a ‘night away at home’ together on the same evening and find ways to connect by having virtual conversations and shared activities or challenges.

The Scout Association have put together further information on Nights Away At Home on their website and cover;

MAYhem 2020

Update

As you know we were planning to get as many people camping outside during the month of May but due to the current circumstances we are changing it to be a virtual ‘Mayhem’ Camp with many challenges that each section member can do individually at home during May to earn their badge.

As part of our virtual ‘Mayhem’ Camp we’re looking to run a campfire online on Saturday the 16th May with both live and recorded campfire segments. This provides a great opportunity for Groups across the County to share and learn some new campfire songs.

If you are currently running your own online meetings and would like to contribute a song for the virtual campfire, we would love to hear from you. We just need you to record your song (e.g. as a recorded Zoom session) and make the video available to us as a link and send it to us by the end of April.

We can’t guarantee that we will be able to play all the submissions – but may be able to run some follow up events to show additional videos. The virtual campfire will be broadcast publicly on our Facebook and YouTube channels so it is important that you seek permission from parents/guardians to ensure they are happy for the recording to be used in this way. A copy of our privacy policy can be found at kentscouts.org.uk/privacy. If you have any questions regarding the campfire and videos please contact Simon Corrigan.
