Confinement, semaine 5. On espère que cette lettre hebdomadaire vous trouvera en bonne forme et que l'envie de découverte musicale est toujours bien présente. Car, comme chaque semaine, on vous offre un album en version digitale HI-RES pour égayer - un peu - votre vie de confiné-e. Cette semaine, alors que paraît son tout nouvel album, on a choisi d'offrir le premier album du pianiste Sabin Todorov, "Inside Story 1" paru en 2008 avec Lionel Beuvens (batterie) et Sal La Rocca (contrebasse). Sabin Todorov est l'exemple du jazzman moderne qui a su laisser place aux influences de sa culture d'origine, la Bulgarie. A l'heure où l'on ferme les frontières et où le confinement favorise le repli nationaliste, il nous semble important de rappeler que la rencontre des cultures et l'ouverture à l'Autre donne le plus souvent naissance à de magnifiques morceaux métissés comme "Oy Shope, Shope" sur "Inside Story 1" (écoutez-le).

Lockdown, week 5. We hope that this weekly letter finds you in good shape and that you still look forward to discovering new music. Because, like every week, we are offering you a HI-RES digital album to brighten up - a little - life under lockdown. This week, as we release his new album, we ‘d thought we’d offer you the first album of pianist Sabin Todorov, "Inside Story 1" released in 2008 with Lionel Beuvens (drums) and Sal La Rocca (double bass). Sabin Todorov is an example of the modern jazzman who is open to the influences of his original culture, in this case Bulgaria. At a time when borders are closed and lockdown favours a trend towards nationalism, it seems important to remind ourselves that the meeting of cultures and openness to others very often give rise to magnificent mixed-culture music such as “Oy Shope, Shope” on “Inside Story 1” (check it out).

Il a également joué le jeu du concert en mode confiné. Voici une vidéo enregistrée simultanément à Paris, Amsterdam et Bruxelles. Avec Karl Jannuska (batterie) et Arno Krijger (orgue hammond), ils jouent une nouvelle version du titre BRAVO qui figure sur l'album "The Optimist."

NEW ALBUM IN 2021 WITH "OVERSEAS"
Toine Thys is coming up with his project OVERSEAS which will release a new album in February 2021 on IGLOOMONDO. OVERSEAS is the story of his meeting with the Egyptian oud player Ihab Radwan. They shared the stage several times during concerts and 'cartes blanches' on european stages. They are now exploring a smaller format, accompanied by the wonder percussionist Zé Luis Nascimento and the Luxembourg cellist Annemie Osborne. They invite the ECM piano Harmen Fraanje for some concerts in a larger setting. At the crossroads of Arabic music and hijazz modes, jazz and tonal improvisation, classical music and rhythms of brazilian music, they play an evolving repertoire, made of clear, free and melodious compositions.
