People of Faith,
In Romans 12, the Apostle Paul gives several exhortations that I believe are relevant to our current situation:
  • Let love be genuine; hate what is evil, hold fast to what is good
  • Love one another with mutual affection; outdo one another in showing honor.
  • Do not lag in zeal, be ardent in spirit, serve the Lord.
  • Rejoice in hope, be patient in suffering, persevere in prayer.
  • Contribute to the needs of the saints; extend hospitality to strangers.
  • Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse them.
  • Rejoice with those who rejoice, weep with those who weep.
Every day, I am filled with gratitude for the way I see our congregation members living out these Christian virtues that Paul talks about. You are showing love, affection, and honor to one another. You are demonstrating patience, perseverance, and hope. You are contributing to the needs of the saints in our congregation and showing hospitality to people in our community. I know that some are rejoicing and some are weeping, and we are meeting each other wherever we find ourselves in this difficult time. May we continue being the church that Jesus is calling us to be in this season of life. And please know that your pastors and church family are here for you!

Food Distribution At Roots of Faith
By Outreach Director, Kathleen Stanley

In my wildest dreams, I never expected that a worldwide pandemic would shut down life as we know it. Roots of Faith immediately asked, “what can we do to help”. We contacted our local partners (Sharpsburg Neighborhood Organization, Second Harvest, Sharpsburg Family Worship Center, St. Juan Diego parish, and the Sharpsburg food pantry) We quickly realized that getting food to those in the most need would be paramount. We started a facebook fundraiser and within a few days we had raised over $4,000. We held our first food distribution to the community on March 19th where we handed out 120 bags in 33 minutes. On March 26th we passed out 300 bags of groceries and on April 1st we passed out 400 bags of groceries to the community. We are focusing on getting food to senior citizens, those who are at high risk , and those who have lost their jobs. We have evolved in a very short time to delivering groceries to 5 local apartment buildings in the area and about 30 individual homes. We continue to hand out grocery bags at Roots of Faith as well. These pictures represent the hard work of volunteers from; Roots of Faith, Second Harvest, and community volunteers. We will continue food distributions until the end of April. We have applied for two COVID19 grants to help purchase food. One grant for $5,000 has already been approved.

Scripture Reading—John 14:1-14
Sermon—Do not let Your Heart Be Troubled
Prayers of the People
Lord’s Prayer
Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass  against us, and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever and ever.  Amen.

Benediction
John 14:1-14

14‘Do not let your hearts be troubled. Believe in God, believe also in me. 2In my Father’s house there are many dwelling-places. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? 3And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, so that where I am, there you may be also. 4And you know the way to the place where I am going.’ 5Thomas said to him, ‘Lord, we do not know where you are going. How can we know the way?’ 6Jesus said to him, ‘I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. 7If you know me, you will know my Father also. From now on you do know him and have seen him.’

8 Philip said to him, ‘Lord, show us the Father, and we will be satisfied.’ 9Jesus said to him, ‘Have I been with you all this time, Philip, and you still do not know me? Whoever has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, “Show us the Father”? 10Do you not believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me? The words that I say to you I do not speak on my own; but the Father who dwells in me does his works. 11Believe me that I am in the Father and the Father is in me; but if you do not, then believe me because of the works themselves. 12Very truly, I tell you, the one who believes in me will also do the works that I do and, in fact, will do greater works than these, because I am going to the Father. 13I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. 14If in my name you ask me for anything, I will do it.
