The aim of this newsletter is to share National and Local initiatives and to help you keep up-to-date with the world of Primary Science.

We were lucky to fit in virtually all our Spring network meetings before the current changes to school opening. These are challenging times for both schools and families.

So Science Leaders – in this issue there are some useful websites that might allow you to support parents/ carers at home and children in school to continue to learn a bit more about science.

Free Resources

Dr Chips comes recommended from Stoke-Across-The-City. He is apparently at Manchester University and is school based as well as a consultant to national programmes. He is going to host on-line primary science lessons at 10am each day. These will be practical, and involve philosophical questions.

Working From Home And Catching Up On Leadership CPD

With the changes in the Ofsted Inspection Framework - building on the work of the last network sessions of ensuring children develop secure understanding of concepts progressively, the focus of the Summer Networks will look more deeply into identifying ‘misconceptions’ and metacognition. These will take place on-line via Zoom. These Zoom meetings will take place with the people who normally attend your local network meetings.

In the meantime, my website has links to sites supporting development of your own subject knowledge, subject pedogogical content knowledge, science assessment, progression, types of enquiry etc.

Health and Safety

Do you as Science Leader and do teachers have access to the latest Health and Safety information so that we can learn safely without being over protective.

Is your school a member of CLEAPSS?
http://science.cleapss.org.uk

CLEAPPSS have produced two documents which might be useful:

PO97: Practical activities for primary aged children attending school during extended periods of school closure
