Why this is our Passover "PASCHA"

From the book of Exodus chapter 12

We learn of the first Pascha Passover

It is from the time of Moses that we learn of the first Passover. It is when the Hebrew people were enslaved by their ruler (Pharaoh) who because of the hardness of his heart forbade their freedom. Several plagues were inflicted upon Egypt and yet their rulers would not let them go free. Finally, the coming of the Angel of death with the taking of the first-born son was the last plague that Egypt could no longer bear.

For the Hebrews, they were told (see Exodus chapter 12) to prepare a special male lamb for sacrifice whose blood would be placed on the wooden lintels of each home so that the Angel of death would “pass over” that house and the family would be protected.

It would be for us that the sacrificial blood on the wood of the cross of the only begotten and first born of God the Father would preserve us from eternal death! Thus, we become not only the witnesses of Christ’s sacrifice but even more become partakers of Pascha or Vaskrs …His resurrection!

For almost 2,000 years our Church, we the Orthodox, have witnessed and proclaimed this great truth even under the most difficult of situations. Again, we as in our past have followed the biblical path in that we have been sequestered in our homes awaiting not just the Passover but the New Testament Pascha. This is one reason that we don’t often celebrate on the same day as the west in that we must wait for the “Passover” of the Old Testament to finish so that we can enter into the New Testament Pascha and it’s new people, the church.

If one truly would like to spend time researching the word “Easter” you will find that it has nothing to do with Christ, His resurrection, or His followers-the Church, at least alone with bunnies!

It is the Pascha, in all it is significance, that we remember, uphold, and defend that makes us His followers. This year we have been faced with a new plague, a new test of our faith; we like the ancient Hebrews of the Bible have been sheltered in place, we as our Christian family of past millenniums will proclaim His resurrection with clarity, and faith and truth!
Our church during this current plague has not stopped serving on your behalf nor ceased praying for your health knowing that this too shall “Passover.”
Soon we will be back even stronger in our faith than before…seeing what a world without a church looks like and realizing that waking up to smell the incense is a special thing.

Pascha is not the same as Easter!

We are moving forward!
