Say Thank You to our Volunteers
We have many fantastic volunteers in our club and now is your time to mention and celebrate them. Often we work in our own groups not knowing what others do within the club. Today we feature Stuart Egner, currently the club fixtures secretary, umpire and Masters player.
Stuart Egner
Some say hockey is a game for life and if there is someone who epitomises that, it is Stuart Egner. Stuart is our hockey fixtures secretary and manages all competitive games for all our hockey sections, blitzes, leagues, cups.... Stuart has been a regular umpire over the last 20 years, both at branch and national level and was also on Munster Branch for 8 years.

Stuart started playing league hockey in 1972 and currently plays on the Men's 3rds. Stuart has travelled near and far to play hockey. Back in the 1960s Cardiff ran a hockey festival annually and it was a regular haunt for Stuart and the club to visit for many years. Unfortunately Stuart was on the losing side many times losing 5 Irish Junior Cup Finals and an Irish Senior Cup against Lisnagarvey. There was some satisfaction however when he coached  the team that brought the Irish Junior Cup to Harlequins for the first time. Stuart was on the first Quins team that travelled to Europe and in the late 70s he played with The Harps in South Africa. He played with the 1st team for 20 years and continues to enjoy playing hockey with the club. With the development of Masters Hockey in the early 2000s, it has given Stuart a new lease of life having played for Ireland 116 times. He has played in 1 Champions Challenge, 5 World Cups, 3 Celtic Cups and 4 Europeans. He also umpired in the 2017 Celtic Cup in Cork and the Masters Europeans in 2017 and 2019.  Stuart also played in the first every Junior Interpros and continued for another 18 years until 2008.

Stuart's parents, Betty and Denis, played a huge role in the development of the club in the 1970s, 80s and 90s and undoubtedly passed on their love of the game and club to Stuart who in turn passed it on to his sons Mark and Dave who are also involved with the game.

Thanks Stuart for all the work you do, your love for the club and your love for hockey !
