Uncharted Territory
As daily human activity recedes, nature emerges from where it ordinarily hides just out of sight: blue skies appear out of the smog, a new variety of birds can be seen or heard, wildlife ventures onto empty city streets, fish return to once-busy port harbors...
Art too, and creativity emerge and are experienced as never before. Ironically, in these anxious times of self-quarantine and social-distancing unanticipated moments of new-found freedom take us to places of inspiration we had almost forgotten in the daily grind... a walk in the woods or a day out hunting; paddling the creeks or offshore fishing; making a new painting or writing a poem.
At Live Oak Gallery - as everywhere - upcoming plans have been postponed, but the gallery remains open - here online - and we invite you to wander through anytime by clicking into our website, where we've done our best to bring the gallery to you. New images of artwork with information about the maker, the medium, dimensions and price have been added throughout, and even a few photos of our Spring garden have slipped in there. Inquiries are most welcome via phone or e-mail, and if you are so inclined, a visit by appointment may be scheduled.
As always, we appreciate your interest and will keep you up-to-date on gallery news as the future unfolds. Meanwhile, we hope you can put aside your worries - even for a moment - and embrace this time for nature and art.

Daryl Freed: "Learning to Fly" Online Show of New Work

Daryl Freed is an outdoorsman and artist who crafts his amazing three-dimensional wall pieces out of cedar driftwood collected from once-flooded cedar groves near his home in the Ozark Mountains of Northwest Arkansas. His carved ducks spring to life out of the driftwood and appear to be flying right out of the wall, while the imaginative titles tell the unique story of each piece. Together with his wife and creative partner, Michele, he strives to make art "that will be an inspiration to appreciate the beauty of nature that is so readily available if it is sought out." From the masterful "A Perfect 10" encompassing ten ducks in flight, to the fine detail of a single duck in "True North," we think you'll find they've accomplished that and more. For Daryl, every work presents a new adventure: "learning to fly" again and again.

Jane Howard: "The Visible Horizon" Ongoing Online

Saint George Island beachscapes and Apalachicola coastal scenes by local artist, Jane Howard, are displayed in such a way as to create a continuous horizon line around the gallery, drawing attention to that theoretical place where the earth meets the sky. Jane's oil paintings come from close observation and thoughtful examination of how the physical world is put together. Her work contains a certain intelligence and wit that can only come from years of daily practice and intimate knowledge of her subject.
