Martin Magnusson, Program Manager F answers the students' corona questions

Many of these questions are unfortunately not concrete decisions yet, but we are working hard to solve the situation as best as possible. Further critical things we work on are what to do with compulsory practical elements and law-proofed examination in large courses, especially if the shutdown becomes long-lasting. We generally refer to LTH's information. Feel free to contact the program management if you wonder more things!

  • Will there be an extra exam period in addition to the April and June exam periods? / Will there be an exam period set to replace exams from LP3?
    • No, what I know today is that there will not be additional periods.
  • Are there any plans for changed rules or similar for those graduate jobs that are difficult to complete because one should work at home?
    • Yes, each thesis is handled individually based on its conditions. Presentation and opposition can be conducted remotely. If you have any more specific questions, contact your supervisor or program management if you have not started your thesis yet.
  • Will there be a replacement exam for FTF / Electronic Materials and if so when?
    • No, it was given as usual before closing. Reexam will be given next week for the applicants.
  • Why are there no distance lectures in mathematical statistics? Lecture slides have been distributed.
    • Course coordinator says: There was very little interest in lectures before this. They have transparencies, the book and a compendium I have written with very detailed lecture notes covering the entire second half of the course. Questions via zoom during practice times (low utilization so there is plenty of room for personal help). Laboratories are done (since before) on their own with computer-based examination.
  • Some exams were cancelled in lp3. How do you think you should act if you missed one? Will an extra opportunity be given only to those who were canceled?
    • No, there is no general plan for extra occasions. This lies at every institution. You should take a reexam as soon as possible.
  • What applies to the exams in lp4? When do you know if it will be a distance exam or not in June?
    • We do not see any signs today that the social distancing guidelines are changing until then. The planning assumes that there will be a distance exam.

Truth of the Week

Hi everyone, I hope your first week of reexam-period has been nice no matter if you have studied, written an exam or been chilling. I have taken the opportunity to get a little more control over my life. I’ve sorted out old mail inboxes and stacks of paper at home to get some more clarity and focus in my life. I am following the process described in “Getting things done” by David Allen to get into the GTD-method. The book and the method connected to it was recommended to me a couple of weeks ago and even though I am new to it I am this far very positive about it. I plan on bringing it up again in a few weeks when I’ve had time to implement it and evaluate a bit further. The method is a lot about removing distractions from your brain so you can focus more on what’s present. If you are interested, then I recommend you check out some of the resources online by searching “GTD method”.

Until next week, take care!
