Lockdown an opportunity for system change?

Dear Cycling Without Age community,

As almost all CWA chapters worldwide are at a standstill because of coronavirus, we are all truly delighted to witness thousands of CWA changemakers worldwide shift their focus to other meaningful activities in order to help and make a difference for our beneficiaries. It warms our hearts.

Now is a time when people can feel the value of relationships. It’s easier for all of us to understand feeling isolated or vulnerable, just like far too many older adults do permanently.

Societies are shifting like tectonic plates right now. There are opportunities for big change. Why do so many of us expect to live in loneliness and isolation in old age? We can structure society to create isolation or we can structure it to prevent isolation. Imagine a standard for the quality of relationships—to operate a retirement home you must guarantee opportunities to build relationships.

The Right To Relate!
We would like to invite you to join this global conversation along with your other 33,000 CWA changemakers around the world (don't worry, we won't be that many on the call). We aim to crowdsource ideas to how this can become a catalyst for changing the systems in our societies that keep so many older adults trapped in social isolation.

We will be joined by my Ashoka colleague from Italy, Giulia Sergi, who will give us all a short inspiring lecture on system change and system thinking. We will have Susan Pinker with us, psychologist, author of The Village Effect and a TED presenter, who will join our conversation. And as part of this call we will also be breaking into smaller teams to come up with great ideas.

This global conversation (the first 1 hour in a series) will be hosted on our Zoom channel on 21 April 2020 at this time:

6:30am PST
9:30am EST
15:30 (3:30pm) CET
21:30 (9:30pm) AWST
23:30 (11:30pm) AEST
Please register here
Warm regards and hope to see you on Tuesday,
Ole Kassow, Founder
Meet Susan Pinker live on Tuesday 21 April
